Seems the watch market really is changing. Just read this article which shows how things are changing.

My rolex chronometer which was my 21st birthday present is still going accurately after 50 years, i wonder how many of todays smart watches will be around in 50 years.
Mind mine only indicates the correct time,it does not make tea

I doubt any of them will. But they are not really made to be an heirloom are they.

Tag have made a smart watch, i hope rolex don't tho.
i like my dumb rolexs

Cant remember the last time I wore a watch to be honest.

Not hugely clear article, are they saying high end analogue watch sales are in decline?

Im not sure that's huge news, expensive watches were always a fairly niche market.

I'm going to guess that "Swiss watch" sales are a fraction of what they were 15 years ago.

I have a load of watches, just cleared 5 out and bought a LG watch R. Seems quite good and is genuinely handy getting notifications to your wrist.. Also fun downloading and changing faces when I want.. But have taken it off the last few days and haven't missed it.. Yeah I can't see it lasting that long.. But it is incredible to think of the processing power it has on your wrist.. 1ghz, 4gb storage etc

I'll admit I'm a watch fan. But looking at the Apple watch, as much as I would like to buy one ( and money isn't really an objection ) I can't see the point. For some people it may be fine. And yes I agree in ten years time the gen 1 Apple watch will just be a interesting curio. Me I'm sticking to my conventional watches like my Speedmaster

Yeah, I stuck my Seiko SKX013 diver on this morning while the poor LG Watch R lay on it's charging dock..

I am old fashioned, I use my Rolex GMT Master II to tell the time, my iPhone to speak to people, my Nikon D750 to take pictures & my computer to correspond with people.

Unlike my other things, the watch doesn't need a battery to keep going, it goes as long as I do :)

It is also about the only thing I own that has held its value over the years (apart from my house).

I'm one of many who sit on the side of the Apple Watch, I received mine in April last year and have only had one or 2 days without it since.

As mentioned above, it's very convenient receiving notifications on my wrist. Mainly because I limit the ones that make it to my watch so if I get a tap on the wrist then I know it's worth looking at.

My phone is always on silent, vibrate off and I never miss anything I don't want to.

People who don't own one mostly don't understand what it can do and I'm not about to lecture people of what it can and can't do, but let's just leave it with this:

My watch is as much of a watch as my mobile phone is a phone.

I agree! It's often a case of having to defend why I wear one! After getting bored of repeating myself, I now just say: I know it's not a necessity, you're buying convenience.

In the last 14 months I've only been without my LG R watch for 9 days & I missed it every one of those days.

Mrs Nod uses hers and values it as a business tool but enjoys not wearing it when possible. (Pebble, cost her £50 as an experiment from Currys in their sale.)
