Thinking about one of these as they are considerably cheaper than the Peak Design strap. Has anyone got one, or had one ??? what are your thoughts and are there many negatives since they are around £25 cheaper than the Peak Design straps.

Are these the straps with similar looking clips to the Peak Design Anchor links? If so, I wouldn’t look at them as an alternative to the PD options.

I had a set to look at and it’s a magnetic catch rather than friction and does not feel as secure in anyway as the Peak Design Anchor links.

I wouldn’t use them for my gear.

Never trust any strap with QR in description.

That which can come undone WILL come undone.

A fixed strap for me every time.

The peak design clips are safe as houses, I also used OpTech for nigh on 20 years with never a hint of a problem.

I can see why you’d be cautious, but those products are used by thousands of us with no issues at all.

BTW I’ve read plenty of horror stories re the Black Rapid type metal clips, and I’d avoid those.

It looks like a copy of the PD mechanism, so that should be OK.

It appears slimmer than the PD, but with a shoulder / neck pad. I’d be cautious of the cord on the anchors, as the PD ones have a safety feature of showing when they’re getting worn.

They look like the clips I bought to try. Personally I’d be a bit windy carrying much with them. The magnetic locking mechanism isn’t that strong.

I guess if you pick one up from Amazon you can always return it if you’re not happy with it.

Thanks Phil, funny enough I currently use an OpTech strap but it is a touch too short and the camera rests against my hip bone whilst walking. One reason to try something else.

I have several of the PD straps - three Slides and a Slide-Lite. I think they're the best strap available and I've tried many types of strap over many years.

I have a Black Rapid that I use as a back-up on my Sigma 150-600 in addition to a PD Slide on the camera body. I almost dropped my D850 and 70-200 2.8 due to the connector coming undone on it once, so there is no way I would ever trust a Black Rapid strap on its own. Research shows that I'm not the only one that's had this problem either.

I have no experience of the Small Rig strap, so can't comment on that I'm afraid. However, for such a small saving over a well-proven PD strap, I know what my choice would be. ;)

I have one and have been using it for the last year or so.

I have used it with my Z5/Z100-400. One attachment on the camera and the other on the lens foot.

I have used it over the last weekend (in Seville) on my Z50 II/Z24-200.

I have had no problems; I have found the attachments to be secure and they have never released inadvertently.

I've hung off a PD button and pocket, using a paracord lanyard. I'm the fun side of 100kg - well over the button's rating!

Do you want to sell one ;)

Just looked at the link and it does look to have one advantage over PD in that it looks longer and more adjustable but I would have to go over the full specs first .at the moment I have two PD leashes and a custom made leather strap with PD clips . And down to one camera these days so not in the market for one

Hmmmm. Now actually had the time to read the specs and check it out .,very interesting especially if like me your a larger build . The PD leash fully extended is circa 130 mm which while o.k only just fits so it’s one size fits all and can be a tad constrained at times . The new small rig one based on that spec is 160mm which worth thinking about , I honestly can’t see the small rig clips being a problem as Mike says they’re a reputable manufacturer

well I have ordered both the small rig and Peak Design from Amazon and they are coming tomorrow. Will give both a try and see which one I prefer, it might be only £25 quid difference in them but as they say in the advert "every little helps"

Will be interested on your views on the small rig one

Have you got these yet any updates ?

Ok, had a play with both over the weekend and Amazon will be getting one back.

the one I will keep is the small rig strap for these reasons as they apply to me personally. Others might not be in agreement though.

1. The strap is longer than the slide so can be made longer to suit individual needs, I liked it as it could be more adjustable length wise and did not let the camera just knock against my hip bone.

2. The shoulder pad on the small rig makes it so much more comfortable than the slide strap which is one width all the way around. It has a soft foam that sits nicely on your shoulder and is shaped to suit your neck. It can also move up or down the actual strap to get it more comfortable. The slide does not have one I did notice it around my neck but not as much if hanging over the shoulder.
Also I did not like the grippy bits on the slide but you can turn the strap over and they sit on the outside.

3. The quick release tags are slightly smaller but are really strong and have a ball bearing in them which I presume gives extra locking in, but I don't know for sure.
They go into the strap connector very similar to the slide ones, in fact they are more or less identical apart from they do not fit each other.

4. £25 cheaper as well, since I'm a skinflint that helped a lot. :)

What I did like about the slide was the buckles which have a metal arm to free the strap for adjustment. The small rig has the same adjustability but it is not as quick. Having said that I don't know how often I would adjust the strap if at all when I have it set to suit me. The slide box is more fancy, colour printing of setup and a fancy bag if that is your thing. Both straps come with extra tags and a plate too attached to tripod mount on base of camera. The plate for the small rig has four anchor points whereas the leash only has two (well mine did)

Hope this helps anyone that is thinking about the small rig strap, for me it is a winner and will be replacing my Optech Pro loop strap.

Yep that about seals the deal for me got two slide straps and a leather one with the same fittings I don’t need four straps with one camera so it’s hey ho away you go .thanks for the heads up .. gotta wait for the Mrs to get back from Xmas shopping now she’s got the prime I cancelled mine

Ok, if you already have the slide system then there is no need to change, me, I had the op-tech and wanted something better which I have found.

My reasons are quite simple the leash straps I own are simply not quite long enough for me especially in the winter months when I obviously wear bulkier clothing . Not yet ordered due to personal circumstances but will know later today

Now ordered be here tomorrow

Well mine arrived this morning , very impressed with the quality and the extra length . The included bottom plate has proved very handy to . Now got my TLT Elle L bracket and one of my PD leashes on e.bay

Yes Jeff they are good quality indeed, should have bought one years ago.
