Small Studio Kit for home

Ok after doing some studio stuff I want to be able to do some small projects at home without going all out and spending a shed load as I am only newbie when it comes to Studio light.

Looked at getting the Lencarta Kit builder 3 head mains but its coming in close to £760 once I had triggers, beauty dish and backdrops. Would I be better off just getting the 3 heads look for dishes, snoots etc from elsewhere?

Really I am looking at £500ish budget including backdrop...

Any advice? Im hoping Garry will pop along and give me some words of advice... Also has anyone been on the lighting course by Lencarta?

Prices have changed (in both directions) and kits now carry a discount structure on all of the accessories - with a 3 head kit the discount is 10%, so unless you can get the same quality accessories elsewhere for at least 10% less, you're better off buying the kits than buying the heads only and getting the accessories elsewhere - and you'll be better off buying them all in one go than separately.

But the real question is, do you really need a 3 head kit? I don't want to put you off of buying 3 heads and I certainly don't want to put you off of buying tools like beauty dishes - but there's also a lot to be said for having say 2 heads, using only one of them until you've found out exactly what can be done with it and then starting to use the other head...

That's exactly what we do at the Lencarta lighting workshops that I host - 1 light, see what can be done with it, then add a second light for effect, or to mitigate problems caused by the first light, and then same again for any other lights that are used for the shot - always starting with just one light

Bal - purely a personal view but I can't speak highly enough of the lighting courses that Garry hosts. I was there Sunday and for the price it was simply fantastic value. A great opportunity to play with a whole range of modifiers and lighting situations. Garry knows his stuff but the day was a long way from being a "me talk, you listen" session. I took loads away from the day - not just about lighting, but I also learned a lot from talking to Cassie, a great model.

To begin with I probably wont use all 3 and actually only just start with 1 until I know what I am doing but my thinking is better to buy 3 head kit to begin with because after shooting with 1 and 2 it wont be long before I will be using 3 heads. I am sure its it will work out better value for money?
