Right just need some quick advice, going to a small party down the road from my house tomorrow as a +1, so I dont know the Birthday girl or anyone out of my group of friends, and I always feel a bit odd going and not taking anything present wise, so I thought why not take the camera, try and get a few shots and at the very least put a few up on flickr for anyone who went to see?

I recently did my first small gig, and the results where okay, just need to figure out noise reduction/sharpening to get a good balance.

So, I have the 300D, 50mm 1.8, kit lens, and 70-300mm Sigma APO (Which I wont be taking) and the Sigma 500 Super Flash..

Any advice if I do take my camera bag with me?

use the flash. and get your other half/friend/whatever to check its ok with the birthday girl before you go.
some people REALY dont like having their photo taken.
she,ll probably think its a great idea, but just to be on the safe side .got all the lens you need by the sound of things. the 50 will do for most stuff .
watch your backgrounds.
if the place gets crowded ,its easy to frame a brill shot, and have a plantpot growing out of someones head on the pic.
remember to have fun, and try to get the good candids rather than decending to loads of posed gurners.
the more relaxed candids always look more natural.
did i say have fun?

sorry, i meant to say TAKE the flash.
with good light the 50 mm 1.8 will suffice, but you may need the flash if its murky , or for fill in ,if you got a strong lightsource from somewhere.thats the beauty of digital , you can take loads and experiment. direct flash, bounce off the ceiling, etc.
lens tissues for when someone sprays beer on you, or puts a fingerprint on your lens.(they will).and keep the strap round your wrist/neck.
oh , and have fun.:D

Thanks inaneredstripe I appreciate the quick and detailed reply! Yeah I havent used the flash in a long time, but I have time tomorrow to practise basic settings.

Yeap, going to get a friend to ask the birthday girls permission first, but yes most likely a yes!

Luckily I have been to the place before, and im 99% sure the lighting will be the same, should get away with no flash for most of the night, but yes its coming with. I'll definatly think of backgrounds, as this is mostly for me to experiment I'll be trying different things, second shutter curtain, all sorts.

Candids is what I'm going to go for, not the '£3 for your pic on a keyring' pic, other people can do that with p&s. Lens tisses, good idea!

Fun is the plan, haha!

not sure id put them on flickr though , maybe just put them on a disc and give it to her .

Its only a 2 hour thing really, and I'll try and be careful, If me having my camera there starts making the night less fun due to worry I can see my house from the place so I'll just nip home and enjoy myself. Yeah flickr was me just meaning.. someway of people seeing them if they want, a CD sounds better.
