SMALL music player for Spotify

So I like to run. When I run, I sometimes listen to music. At the moment, I'm maintaining a h-u-g-e iTunes library just to put songs onto my iPod Nano 6th ed which IMO is the best running music player ever made. But that's stupid since I have a Spotify Pro sub and lots of the music I like is on there.

I need a player that lets me load Spotify content for offline listening. It must

1. Be SMALL and light. I don't use an iPod touch that would do all of this because it's so big and fragile.

2. Have a pause button (at least) that I can operate with gloves on. And not special magic device operating gloves. Just my regular special magic running gloves.

3. Have a decent battery life - 10 hours min.

It would be nice if it had a clip on the back like a Nano but I can live without that.

Any ideas?

The sandisk sansa clip sport has a good rep and cheap. I have no idea about Spotify offline. I thought you could only use it with a device that has the app on. Can you download them as a mp3 file?

That's my problem. I guess my question resolves to "what's the smallest player that will run the Spotify app?" :) I was hoping there was a tiny Android music player that I hadn't heard of.

Can you download them as a mp3 file?

Not legally ;)

Bluetooth headphones and phone in your pocket is a option.

Does the android watches need to be paired with a phone to work?

I have a Z3 and while it's a great phone it needs a whole running belt just to take it with me :(

Android watch is a good idea though. It would look funny with my Suunto but with the music cranked I wouldn't hear people laughing.

According to the Amazon listing,

[Measure] 88*48*12.8MM

ACs for weight, probably less than a GSS!

Thanks - for some reason all I could see was the shipping weight which was half a kilo!

One issue with the phone linked above is the very small memory size, according to one reviewer you can't install any apps on it, at least not without a good bit of jiggery pokery. Not a problem if you're android savvy but not straight forward either.

What about the other music service. Do any of them let you download?

That's a good point. IIRC Spotify has to be "persuaded" to store its music on the external card as it likes to stick it on the internal memory.

I don't think so. It's basically how they enforce copyright protection - you can only play their music through their app and that means you need a device that can run apps.

Amazon Prime's new streaming service says you can but I've not tried it yet.

Unless I'm missing something, they are basically lying.

There are 2 different music services from Amazon both with similar names. One is pretty cool: it works with portable devices, it works offline, it works with Sonos. The other is pretty limited: it doesn't do any of that but it lets you listen to music you don't "own". The "free" Prime one is the second. The first only works with music you have bought from Amazon. Their PR department like to mix the 2 up.

Even if it does you need to run the Amazon app. And I bet anything that will run Spotify will run that ;)

This is way harder than I thought. Looks like there really is a market for a smaller ruggedised iPod Touch running Android. Or for somebody to install iOS on the Nano :)
