hi i bought a cheap lightbox from maplin so i can have a go at some macro stuff while the weather and light is not on my side but i dont have any lights or external flashes ,my first subject is going to be the internal workings of a xbo360

just wanted some ideas as to the best way to light this with what i can build with stuff lying around to avoid getting shadows etc and also to light it while i do timelapses

thanks:)

Pro photography is actually about creating (the right) shadows, not getting rid of them.

I think you may find without lights that tent won't make a scrap of difference to your pictures. Try a pair of desk lamps. You'll need to custom set the white balance on your camera because lights given off by desk lamps are normally ~3200K, i.e. yellow. Also, unless you use flash, you need slow shutter speeds, so camera on tripod is a must! Even with flash using a tripod is still preferred.

Personally I find those light tents very limited.

ive just got a new tripod so all good there will pop out and buy some small lamps today if ive not got any lying around and i understand i need to match whitebalance to whatever bulbs i use

for a circit board do i really want shadows?

Well that depends on the style you want doesn't it. If you want to photograph the board to reverse engineer it, then maybe not. ;)
