After recently getting 7D for wildlife I still have 1d markII staying in my cupboard. I'd like to swap it for something smaller that still would be good for landscape and general use. I was thinking of getting micro4/3 (maybe panasonic G2). I dont have any experience with this system as I've been always having DSLR. what would you recommend?

GH1 or GH2, never just a G. Done plenty of landscaping with my GH1, needs an ND8 grad on more or less permanently but I'm happy with the results.

What's wrong with 'just a G'?

Gf2 + 14mm. £299 from curry's, leaving cash for tripod and filters.

crappier than necessary sensor. There is no good reason to buy a G over a GH, but the sensor upgrade makes a GH a much better camera.

Don't buy a GH, get a d700 as that has a better sensor. There is nothing wrong with the G1,G2,GF1,GF2(all the same sensor) as a 2nd camera. Alan is right that the gh2 has a better sensor, but it does not make the other ones crap IMHO.

Until you bring the G3 into the equation!

Same old sensor better JPEG engine, no improvement for anyone shooting raw (and you need to with Panasonics)

Who said buy a D700 - the question was for a smaller camera than a 7D not a bigger one!

Plus as it happens the GH sensor is damn near comparable to the 7Ds, so if you're going to get one of the fauxDSLR Pannys it makes sense to go with a decent one.

how about a scanner and a Fujifilm 645 film cam?

Absolutely lovely setup, but more than £450!

On a film note, I've a suitable cam and lens combo in the classifieds atm ;)

I've also had a lot of success with my Pentax 645 and various lenses.

IMO i wouldn't choice a G2 when you have DSLR camera;)

The GH cameras are great but you are starting to lose the small-size benefit of M4/3. Suggesting the G2 isn't capable is a bit daft imo. As above I have sold several pics taken with the G1 or GF1, including a 30x20" print, and licensed several to businesses etc.

I don't know much about these cameras but I assume the GH is an m43 camera? If so I'd be amazed if it's tiny sensor was a match for the 7d's.

A 4/3rds sensor isn't that tiny compared to an APS-C sensor.

Its significantly smaller though, especially the way they are cramming MP into them.
