Small bag for mountaineering

Just wondering what people use when they're out in the hills. Up until now, I've gone on dedicated photographic day trips and I've taken a Tamrac rucksack with all my camera kit in.

In November I'm doing a trip that'll mean I need to carry my outdoor gear with me which means using a proper walking rucksack. I'm thinking of getting some sort of small bag (maybe a belt bag?) that will allow me to carry a D300 with a short lens attached, maybe a second lens and some filters. I'd like the camera to be quite accessible ideally though if the general consensus is that I should put it inside a padded bag in my rucksack, I'm open to that idea too.

What does everybody else use?

Have a look the fstop bags, excellent mountain bags with interchangeable camera inserts so can leave room for other essentials.

I probably should have said in my original post but after having a bit of spending spree recently, the like of which would make Paris Hilton blush I really ought to keep it cheap. Maybe £50 tops.

Maybe a regular hiking pack with a smaller camera bag inside it might do the job?

I stick to normal rucksacks as these suit my needs better and tend to fit camera stuff into them using small camera bag, filter bag, lens bag etc. I also use drysacs- Ortlieb ones as I trust them although there are others.
If it's good weather then I'll carry the camera externally in a small bag- either clipped to the larger bag or just slung over my shoulder. If it's not good weather then I wouldn't be taking any pictures anyway so being buried in the big bag is a mute point.

Those look great though I think they may be a bit small in terms of non-camera capacity. I'm not going to be carrying everything with me but I do often go up to the highlands in winter so tend to carry extra thermal layers, crampons etc...

I'm probably thinking more along the lines of an additional camera bag that I can either fit in my conventional rucksack or onto my waist strap or something else that hasn't yet been brought to my attention.

Looks good. Do you put your 5D in that? If that fits, I'm sure a D300 should.

Actually just edited my link. Found the exact one I have with the suspension system in it. Yes 5D fits with 17-40L on it easily.

Cheers. Looks perfect for my needs. I may grab a little lowepro lens case or something just so I can take a second lens as well. Just trying to find a good price now.
