I've just got my first DSLR, a Canon 450D.

I'm after an easy to carry small bag for protecting it and some kit. Well, I'm after advising someone who'll get it me for xmas. ;)

I don't anticipate that I will have a lot of camera gear, as I simply can not afford too much. This is what I think I'll have to fit into it

450D with Kit Lens 18-55
75-250 or 75-300 size lens
Couple of filters
Spare battery
Spare SD Memory card/s

Remote release maybe if I ever get one
Anything else I've missed?

EDIT: I gave this a little more thought, it might be worth me looking for a rucksack style, so I can take it out when I go for a ride on my motorbike.

Any recommendations?

I have one of these Crumpler pretty boy xl. all wrapped up till Christmas day :(, but it may be the size you are looking for,
Not that small though.

get a lowepro slingshot 100AW (although the 200AW is cheaper). Thats great for whipping your camera out faster. Or theres a lowepro stealth that has the opening on the rear of the bag, so no-one can get into it while its on your back!

I don't think one shoulder strap only is very suitable for taking on the motorbike. ;)

lowepro micro trekker ? they do two sizes.

Now that looks perfect. :)

Why not, i use mine when moutain biking. It has the single shoulder strap but also a secondary strap the comes around the side and forms a Y shape. This attaches to a quick release buckle, so one click and you can swing it around and get your camera out. It sounds perfect for what you are after
