My friend has taken photos on her Samsung PL210 and she has had the pics developed by Asda and Tesco and they have a facility where you can crop manually but the company she has just sent the last lot to does not offer this option and the prints have come back 5.5 x 4! When she contacted them they said ''our ratios are different and if they had been printed 6 x 4 we would have lost a lot of image through cropping'' Is this something to do with the settings that she is using on the camera or what? Can anyone shed any light on it please.
This is because she is on the 14M setting (4x3 ratio), if she uses the 12MP she will get a 3x2 ratio - if they had printed 6x4 she would have lost some top and bottom on a landscape image.
So she's getting the full image, even if it is a little smaller, without having to crop the edges.
Having been caught by the 'auto crop' years ago the first time I did it, I still wonder why they didn't just fit to height and have a letterbox (blank) border on each side.
