SLR to P&S have you done it?

I don't really see the argument in this; I have had a play with the nex7 & 18-55 & it is a much smaller & lighter package than my 40D & lens by a long way. Obviously some of the telephoto lenses will be reasonably big but the point of the nex is you can have a small zoom or prime attached & it will be nowhere near as in your face like a big DSLR would be & easier to carry all day.

However if you make a living from photography I don't think the nex will replace the options available from a DSLR system. I see it as a hobbyists camera for those who don't want to sacrifice iq but want a camera you can carry without the bulk of the DSLR.

I know the lens options aren't amazing at the moment for the nex but there are adaptors available to fit pretty much any lens. I have to admit I really like the look of the CZ 24mm on the nex7, although you could buy an x100 for the same price as the lens!

I'm not arguing that it's smaller but the NEX 7 plus lens won't fit in your pocket either.

If you make a living from photography then DSLR is pretty much a standard. But for the average joe who has a dslr then a smaller MFT or NEX is more than capable.

My NEX 3 and 18-55 will fit in my jacket pocket.

Must be a big pocket. I've held the C3, NEX-5, 5N and none of them fit in my pockets.

Nex or mft are definitely not jeans pocketable but with shorter lenses will comfortably fit in a jacket pocket or sit nicely on a neck strap without discomfort.
We all have different fashions though; if you're into tight leather gear then the iPhone probably isn't 'pocketable' either

For some this isn't a choice, I will have to sell my D90 soon as i lost my job last year due to local government cuts, I have really found it difficult to find anything, I think due to my age. Fortunately, after selling loads of stuff i have accumulated, I was able to buy the Nikon P7100 to take its place, I was tempted by M4/3 but that would just mean me wanting more lenses :-)

I'd also love an iMac which I could afford if I purchased the x10 but I'm really not sure how the files from the x10 would look on a gorgeous 27inch screen?

I have an X10 and an iMac (although only the 22" screen) and it looks fantastic. However, worth bearing in mind that the MAC OS does not support X10 RAW at the moment (and may never?). Need to use Silkypix which runs so slow it really is not worth the effort.

I've already pulled the trigger on an nex7 so the iMac will just have to go on the wish list.. or maybe the plastic in my Pocket :D

Had my hands on a G12 the other day, first time since my G7 broke about 2 years ago.
It's a great camera, and feels really good to hold and play around with.....then waiting for it to respond pressing the 'on' button and it persuaded me not to go down this route:shake: Little things will make you miss a dSLR i think.
Maybe for certain things, it would be pretty good (Landscapes maybe, but even then it's not that wide, so maybe still not that suitable), but for pics of the kids etc, it just doesnt respond nearly quick enough compared to 'only' a D3000.
(other P&S might be different I dont know).
It also has ~10MP but around at least half the size of the D3000 sensor (probably a lot more even) - you can get OK shallow DOF if you zoom way out to the long end, and do standard things to help like subject miles in front of background etc, but its not close to a dSLR, even current entry range bodies IMO anyway....
They are still very capable, but for a little more weight (D3000 isn't 'that' heavy even with the 55-200 on), it's not really worth switching back for me.
Entry dSLR and cheap, fast primes are the way I work:lol::thumbs:
