Looking to get a strap that wraps around my hand for my 60d.
Never put the neck strap on the camera - don't really like them and tend to keep the camera in a pocket or similar if possible (often wearing a RAF officers waterproof jacket with massive pockets). When using friend's dSLR's in the past I'd often wrap the neck strap around my hand anyway.
Not too worried by a strap to go around my wrist, but I'd like to be able to loosely hold the camera in my palm by my side without a tight grip.

Anyone recommend one? Ideally so I can still easily have it on a quick release for a tripod, monopod, etc.

I've got one of these as I also hate long straps - I find it quite happy to spend most of the day holding the camera with this, and never have to worry about dropping it or keeping a constant death-grip on it...

Oh, also you don't have to remove it for a tripod either.

p.s.
I had to re-thread mine in reverse, but that was just because it initially blocked my battery compartment on the Kx. Since then I've never had to take it off the camera.

I'm using one of these with my 60d:

I like it a lot, and it's good that you can easily unclip the strap when you don't want it.

I used to use one like flossie recommended but I found that where it screws into the tripod mount I didn't like the extra height it added to the camera, and also the tripod mount in the bottom of the handgrip isn't really rigid enough to use.

Cheers for the thoughts. It was the sort Flossie has been using that I was thinking of - so I can relax my fingers a bit more, but still have both held fairly securely and 'ready to go'.

However, I can see there would be some advantage to a wrist strap version - for instance if I wanted to get something out of a right hand pocket :). Do you find there's much difference in 'carrying feel' between them SixToes?

I have seen some that seemed to be like the first example, but with an extra wrist strap that sat further down your wrist. When I first looked at it, I didn't like the idea, but now I can't find the site again, I'm thinking it could be quite good actually :).

The ones that screw into the tripod socket offer more support, the OpTech one is really more for security than anything. I found that the handgrip on the 60D fit my hand so well I didn't want any additional support, but didn't want to carry it for an extended period without something keeping it attached to my hand.

The only other issue with the screw in ones is that if you have it too tight it restricts the movement of your hand and makes it difficult to get to some controls, so you have to find the trade-off point between support and camera control. I was pretty happy with this type of hand strap, I used it all the time on my 400D, but like I said with the 60D hand grip I don't feel the need for it any more. You can get the screw in ones really cheap on eBay, I think I paid about £4 for mine, so maybe try that type first and if it doesn't work for you it hasn't cost you much.

I was looking at battery grips the other day, but I don't think anything I do really justifies the extra bulk.

This was the strap I'd seen and I now remember why I didn't like it - does look a bit TOO restrictive:

As you point out; can get them pretty cheap, so might as well just give one a go. Could probably splash out on a cheap wrist strap of some kind to compare too (or just dig out one from some other random electronics device and see how it feels before getting a heavy duty one).
