Hi guys

Have a huge gammon joint to cook for boxing day but was wondering if anyone has cooked it in a slow cooker in coca cola? Will it cook okay?

Thanks in advance

Sarah

What size? When you say slow cooker do you mean a proper slow cooker or just a low oven?

Cider (Sweet Cider Best) is the best thing to cook it in, slow cooker or boiling (Yum! Yum!) put it in the cider the night before leave in the fridge over night, loooovvveeeelllyyy:thumbs:.

PS..
What time is dinner.....:D

You're kidding right?

No full fat sorry sugar cola is a well recognised method of cooking a Christmas ham or any othrr really.

Cooks o.k. in slow cooker but would use cider instead of coke, tastes better.

Better slow cooked (baked) in oven gets a nicer deeper flavour.

Good idea - should save you cleaning the pan:-

"How Clean Is Your House" on TV ), the ladies cleaned a long-forgotten burnt saucepan simply by boiling some Coca Cola in it. A few weeks later my turnip boiled dry and the pan was quite encrusted in places. CC cleaned it up fine.

Think it also get tar off your car too!

Squizza, Not cooked it before that way, dont see any reason why it wont work, although you may be better off using a big pan.

Been cooking a ham in coke for the last few years at xmas, once cooled a little, coating skin with mustard and brown sugar, blast in hot oven for about 30m to crisp and golden, absolutely love it,keep think about trying another method but the coke cooked tastes so good I am having a job getting away from it! May buy another and try the cider as mentioned earlier in thread.
Anyway. cook, eat, enjoy, and happy xmas to all.

Thats what I'm cooking on boxing day, wonder if the coke will be anygood for use with a little Jack Daniels after??!!:D

nope i've seen it cooked like this, on the stove with an onion for a few hours then drain it, stud it with cloves and cover it with black treacle and mustard powder, then in the oven at 200C for about 30-40 minutes

I have cooked gammon in slow cooker a few times, never in coke thout. just make sure you give it enough time, large joint would say at least 6-8 hours on high. enjoy!! :D

Thanks guys! The gammon had to be cut in half because it was too big ! :D

Should be lovely! yum yum

Did mine in coke one year but the powder just annoyed the guests....

Seriously though, cider or a sweet ale us better. Loads of Demerara sugar and some cloves do the trick. :)

Tesco have a recipe card out with the coke on it.

(I know a lot of guys who use coke to clean weapon parts, clears baked on carbon lovely)

you can do it in a low oven - depending on weight for up to 24 hours! house smells lovely while it's cooking too. :)

It feels sooooo wrong pooring 2 litres of coke over a ham, and it fizzing and bubbling away, weird.....well we will find out in a couple of hours.....just must resist a little tipple in the mean time :D
