Slow Backups with Chronosync

I'm getting seriously slow throughput when backing up to my Synology using Chronosync. Heres the background;

I'm using a 27" iMac (2013 model) with the fusion drive installed by Apple.

Lightroom catalogues stored on the fusion drive, and all raw and edited jpgs are stored on the IcyBox. I use the built in time machine backup software from apple to backup the iMac side of things, and then regularly sync the IcyBox to another IcyBox which is stored elsewhere. I use Chronosync to sync the Lightroom catalogue to the IcyBox which is rapid, I also regularly sync the IcyBox to the Synology too. I also use Cloud storage.

IcyBox connected to the iMac via USB3
Synology 413j NAS directly connected to the iMac via network port (RJ45 cable)

The sync from the IcyBox to the other IcyBox is rapid, I can transfer 10's of Gb in 20-30 mins. The same sync (i.e. same amount of data) of the IcyBox to the Synology can take 8+ hours. I'm using the latest version of Chronosync, and have the smart scan enabled. I am expecting too much from the Synology or am I missing something?

Macs are pretty bad at supporting NAS drives. Nobody seems to talk about it but performance seems to vary between awesome and pitiful.
 
Macs are very good at support SMB, AFP, FTP, iSCSI you name it and all at Gigabit speeds. Using a Mac is not the issue at all, and shouldn't be a cause...

It could be many things inter alia...network cables, file protocol used, switch used, software used

Ah. All the network issues (such as the day they decided to break all Buffalo devices) must be my imagination then. It's just a curious coincidence that a PC on my network can access my ReadyNAS a *lot* faster than any of the Macs can.

Anyway, Econ will sort it. Very good company.
 
Using the same protocol? And you are sure it is the client and not the server implementation where the issue lies?

Not saying you are imagining it, merely saying that the conclusion cant be drawn as to that is where the fault lies. I've got equal speeds to my network connections.

Nope. I'm bored of investigating it. There are plenty of learned articles on the interweb that point out that in general Macs work excellently with some NAS and abyssmally with others. It's just the way it is.
 
LOL Thus the conclusion is, it is the Mac's fault ;)
