Well I have my 5D3 back from the Canon service centre in Elstree, I deposited the camera and lens, almost typed "dropped off" but I'd already done that via camera bag opening up them hitting the concrete kitchen floor, just before Christmas and got it back New Years's eve ( I self collected as I didnt fancy it going via courier/post at that time of year). Not sure how many working days that was but not many would be my guess.
The damage, to my wallet was about £360 incl. VAT, to the camera and lens it was physical - a sensor position re-adjust as it had slipped, no doubt due to the sideways impact it suffered, to the mounted lens (24/70 2.8), new filter ring and some repairs to the zoom ring.
No flange damage to either, no body marks or cracks, no external marks on the camera at all, the lens had a bashed in filter ring but nothing else visible.
Given the weight and impact to lens/body combination I think they stood up to the whack pretty well.
Included was a cleanup, including some muck in the mirror box, a service and sensor clean, all in all not bad at all, except now when I put the gear in my backpack I am seriously paranoid about anything falling out (again).
