Thinking about getting a sling to take a bit of the weight off my neck. I tend to carry my kit in a rucksack to make it easier on my back/shoulders. I'm a little hesitant of the straps that put all the weight of the camera on the tripod screw. L

What do you use and why? What would you avoid?

Peak design slide, haven't got one but will be getting one they now have summit edition which is a little longer I think and different colours

I bought a sling strap and converted it from tripod attachment to attach to one neck strap eyelet. So it hangs sideways and not upside-down. Which is better.
A benefit of the sling strap is you can put it behind you out of the way when not in use.
I put a quick release on it, as sling straps with shoulder pads are quite bulky. And could get caught on something and pull the camera off a table for example. With mine I clip a wrist strap in place of the shoulder strap when indoors.

I've used a sling strap for several years now (Q-Strap + L-Plate) and have found them to be excellent - I currently use them with a D7200 + 24-120 f4 and D810 + 70-200 f2.8 and have no issues whatsoever :)

I bought a Spider Pro Holster (http://www.wexphotographic.com/buy-spider-camera-holster-pro-system-complete/p1520192) for on holiday with the D750 and it was great, whether I had the 24-70 f2.8 or my 18-35 I hardly noticed it was there.
I used it last week for a hike and again it made a big difference to carrying it on my shoulder or neck, this and the slightly lighter 24-120 should for me anyway make a great hiking kit.

I've used all 3 systems my favourite has to be the holster. The Black Rapid Sling was good however I found started suffering with a bad neck and shoulder after a day of caring a 5d3/120-300 combo, I was always conscious when leaning over, bending down as the camera tended to swing slightly or catch the ground when kneeling/bending over. I switched to a spider holster and it is a big improvement. All the weight is on my waist and once it's locked in the holster I'm confident it's not coming out I can forget about it. Even when going around circuits on a pushbike, I just lock it in, hop on and away I go. :plus1: For the Spider Holster

I use a Black Rapid Sport connected to a Fusion Plate. I can get the camera off the strap and onto a tripod in less than 10 seconds. I have two Fusion Plates one for each camera which is secured to the tripod bush with a hex key so it's very robust with no chance of it coming undone. I have tried L brackets over the years but I haven't found anything else on the market that's close to being as good. For weddings I use the Black Rapid double Strap which allows me to carry and use both cameras with comfort.

My preference is for a neoprene neck strap - I have Op-Tech ones on all my SLRs and Tamracs on the CSCs. Compacts are on their supplied neck or wrist straps.
