Hi folks,
I'm being held back from pulling the trigger on this tpod [complete with p&t head] because of uncertainty regarding its exact height [with column down]. On the official slik site it says ''maximum operating height 1900mm'' and ''column extension 380mm''. This does not specify if the measurements include the head or not. I assumed that to get the height with column closed I had to deduct 380 from 1900 but on adorama they actually add the column extension to the 1900, amounting to a massive 2280mm max height.
Can anyone who owns a pro700 kindly indicate the height of this tpod, possibly measured with the P&T head in place.
Thanks
Mark

sounds like max height would be 1900 with the centre extension up

i would suspect its 1520 with it down but adding a head will add 80-100mm

I have a Redsnapper ballhead on mind and it is 60inches to the plate fully up with the centre down. P&T head is 1inch higher so 61 inches. I can add it is a very good sturdy tripod for the money ;)

I have this tripod and head.

I'm 6 foot and with both leg sections extended I dont need to raide the centre colomn.

I have the long centre column removed all the all the time (just leave the short section) as it's still tall enough and makes going down low much easier.

I would certainly recommend it.

Can measure exact heights if you wish......

.

Just measure it - It's 154 cm from floor to plate.

With my 40D added - the height to viewfinder is about perfect for my height.

Thanks,
that just about confirms what I'd assumed. I also have the 40D and it's view finder should reach up to exactly my eye level.
How do you rate the circular QR plate? Is it any more intuitive than the square ones? Do you get any creep at all with long lenses?
Cheers

Add another 40cm or so for the centre column raised.

I think the head is great and the circular plate is pretty nifty.

When the plate is attached to the camera (handheld) it is quite thick but that's not really an issue. It's a very intuitive quick release and being circular gices you a pan option.

At the moment I've switched to a Manfrotto 322RC2 'grip' head as I only have use of one hand (long story) but the 700 head never gave me any problems at all.

Thanks for all your help. I'll plunge in for the 700 then
