My laptop has just throw in the towel and a family member has offered me an i5 15" MBP late 2014 for £400, it has hardly been used, is there anything laptop wise that I could get for the same money that will be as good to edit photos on? Base unit is a not really an option although I could make room I don't really have the space..
I only use Nikons own software and photo shop.
Main reason I ask is because I have never used Apple products (nothing against them just never had any) and so am unsure how I will get on having only ever used windows.
Thanks in advance
Cheers
Ian

Ideal for editing photos and a proper bargain price, in terms of processing power this is basically the same as the current model.

I prefer the Mac OS but if you really don't get on with you can always install Windows.

Tell you what, if you don't want it I will, I'm serious :)

Yeah thats a great price, very very good.

Stick windows on it, and it will be amazing machine. Drivers can be found on the apple website for windows on a mac (bootcamp)

Thanks for the replies, I knew the price was good it was the OS I was a bit worried about, so worst case if I cannot get on with it is put windows on it (y)

That's a great price for that machine. I don't think you'd get any laptop with a similar spec for the price. As far a OSX v Windows I wouldn't worry. You'd soon pick up the slight differences and I would say they are slight as far as a normal user would see. Certainly most software such as Photoshop is virtually identical on both platforms. My son made the transition a few years ago and he had no problems switching

I thought I'd have the same problem as you when I was looking for a new laptop. Took me all of about a day to get used to it. Now I wonder how I ever got by in computer life with windows.

Thank you for the replies I guess its more the worry of the unknown :)

I am not sure TBH, I was going on when it was bought, I am popping round there Wednesday evening to take a look, I will check the spec and manufacture date then, either way I am guessing it will be better than my daughters hand me down 6 year old Toshiba i3 I have been using.. :)

I bought a later 2013 13" Macbook pro for £550 recently so £400 is cheap!

I have a hatred of Iphones/Ipads, mainly due to Itunes so I wasn't sure if I would get on with the Macbook.

To tell the truth, after using it for a month...I love it.

Its really quick in all aspects, including photo editing and just seems to slick compared to Windows.

Thanks noneforit, I don't have a hatred but I do know what you mean about I Tunes LoL, good to here that people who have changed over find Apple OS simple enough to adapt to, I don't do a lot of heavy editing but think it would be silly to pass up the chance of a machine that would normally be out of my price bracket!

I work for Microsoft but have used and liked Macs in the past. At that price I'd snap their hand off. OSX isn't hard to get used to (which is one of the reasons it's so popular!) and you can install Windows on it very easily and it'll make a great Windows machine if you need it now or in the future. Apple's Boot Camp makes this really simple.

Thanks Landwomble.
Thank you all, I appreciate you taking the time to reply!
I have said I will have it so they are just wiping off any personal stuff and I will pick it up tomorrow :) time to hit hit Youtube for some quick tutorials..

:ty:

At that price it's a relative bargain, and hard to recommend against - just make sure it has enough RAM and a reasonable size SSD/HDD that won't restrict future use - these may not be upgradable on this model. The OS doesn't matter, since you can install windows if you want (if you don't mind buying a licence).
