Absolutely gutted - my prize possession that I've had for ages I just noticed has a damaged metal but on the front. God knows how it happened as this and my 15" MacBook retina I test like gold, but just noticed it now while on holiday! Any ideas how much it'd be to be repairs? It is all insured so wondering if it's best just to do the replace thing with the insistence.. Sooooo gutted!!View attachment 37707

Sorry, what exactly are we looking at? Is it that dent in the ring which contains the "CANON ZOOM LENS" writing? Nothing else?

If so, and if you're confident that the lens hadn't taken a serious knock, then you can get a replacement and fit it yourself. H Lehmann in Stoke are the official Canon spare parts suppliers. Call them, make sure they understand *exactly* what you need, and be prepared for the price you're quoted to sound as if somebody's just made it up on the spot.

Just a normal ding. If it doesn't hurt anything, no more serious knocks and you're not selling why worry?

Oh you reckon that'll be okay then? I just got worried.. I hate it when my kit has a ding!

Does it work ok still with the ding? From the photos it looks cosmetic only, if that bothers you, and I know it does some people (Ive just noticed you've a macbook retina so it probably does :)) , then shell out and get it fixed. I fancy the advice from @StewartR is pretty sound.
