Skye and Lochalsh - Fuel my Mojo - Images and Suggestions please

Hi folks

Heading over to stay at Glenelg in a few weeks and whilst I know the area well I was hoping you guys could fire up my mojo with some inspirational images or photography ideas.

I'll be with my wife and the girls so whilst I'll be free to go off on my own - I can't really be too self indulgent when it comes to lengthy expeditions.

I've climbed and photographed most of the Munros and hills in the area so whilst I'd still love to see mountain images - I'm looking for other suggestions photography / location wise.

As well as a few hours here and there most days - I can probably allow myself one full day out. I might get the boat from Elgol to Loch Coruisk or perhaps a boat trip for bird photography.

Anyway - any ideas & suggestions welcome - especially 'different' landscape locations. :thumbs:

There's quite a few from this area.
If you want exact locations on any shots, I should be able to find out where they were taken!

Hmmm I much prefer Skye in the winter so at this time of year I'd probably suggest getting down to Elgol at sunset (the sun will set behind the Cuillin Hills so you'll get a really stunning silhouette once the sun has gone down if it's not cloudy), or drive up to Neist Point a couple of hours before sunset and you'll possibly catch some nice light on the cliffs e.g.:

I know what you mean about the time of year not being the best but it's a family holiday at the end of the day rather than a photography trip.

Because of this I'm trying to make the best of my time and have some other ideas up front otherwise I'll end up coming home with less interesting versions of everything I've done before.

Mountain shots aside - Elgol I've done a zillion times likewise the Quirang, Trotternish, Hairy Loch, Sligachan, Glenbrittle, Fairy Pools, Kiilt Rock, Loch Slapin and so on.

Neist Point - like the idea of that.
 
Should have said - If anybody has any good spots on the Glenelg side of the Kylerhea ferry (as it's now £12) rather than Skye - that would be great.
 
The isle of Raasay has some very atmospheric sites of former communities, Difficult to find but the ruins at "Umican" (dont know correct spelling) has stunning stonework, And the ruined castle at nearby Brokel, There is a ferry from Sconcer, A car cost around £20 return, There are great views across to the black and red Cuillins.

The brochs down past Eilanreach could be quite good....ditto what's left of Bernera Barracks if that's still standing. Been a few years since I've been up there though....have family in Glenelg, used to spend a lot of time round the area.

The spot where Maxwell wrote Ring of Bright Water is quite picturesque....nothing left of the house though.

Some on my Flikr in set called "North West Scotland Trip Jan 2010" if you're interested. I was with Andy and several others from TP.
 
If you're going to Skye over the bridge, take the detour up over Carrbrae for some great views of the Five Sisters and a less photographed shot of Eilean Donan castle.

On Skye, another rarely visited area is Sleat, head down past Isle Oronsay and Armadale to Aird. The circular route from the Gaelic College round Tarskavaig, which takes in the ruined Dunscaith Castle, is also worth a look.

Eilanreach is where I'm staying :)

As for Sandaig (or Camusfearna as Maxwell called it) I've got that on my list as it's a lovely spot.

When I was a kid we stayed at the old schoolhouse at Aird - about 50 yards from the shore. I'd love to head back down there.
 
If you want to photograph Eilean Donan castle, take the road that leads up the hill to the north. Wonderful view of the castle from up there.

Aird's great. Our old family house is in Ardvasar - still try to escape there whenever I can.

A weekend feels like a month up there.

My favourite place in the UK. I tend to go in Feb and look for an alternative view of the Cuillin.
Tokavaig and Sleet peninsula are a must for me. Brilliant view to the Cullin, imo better than Elgol (shock horror)

Missed it this year, my son only 6 months old but i'll be back in Feb.
