i was wondering if anyone could advise me. a good friend has asked me to change the sky in several photos for her to display in her lounge. if you had such a task would you do it in photoshop elements 9, or lightroom 3? if you have time would you describe a little how to do it. i have several shots of just sky in my library in readiness to copy and paste. but there's much more to it than that as the skyline itself is not smooth or straight.

PSE9. Lightroom doesn't have the pixel editing facilities that PSE9 does. Lightroom is a developing package as opposed to PS in PSE9 which is an image editing program.

Yep, PE9 is the way to go.

There are various ways of doing it, it would take forever to describe them here. But i would look on youtube for masking tutorials such as this one.

Deke's Masking Tutorial It might not be the exact process you need, but it uses techniques that will be helpful for a lot of compositing tasks. He uses the image itself to make the mask, as this is more natural then trying use the pen tool etc. Its with the full photoshop, but the principles should be the same.

If you get stuck, don't be afraid to ask for more help.

thanx very much

would you recommend to copy and paste then? it'll take for ever doing all the editting along the skyline. i'll try using the "quick selection" tool in pse9.
