just reading the other thread about car insurance figures ,and it prompted me to write this. A few weeks ago the wife said to me that our sky t.v package was getting to expensive at around £85 per month for multi room ,and though I have been with them for around 25 years plus she told me to cancel it .
I phoned and told them I wanted to cancel and was eventually passed to a woman negotiator that kept offering various other packages that although they had a lower price didn't offer a decent service .i stuck to my guns and getting fed up with her tirade of offers told her enough was enough and it was cancel at the end of the month .
Took them two days to come back with a on screen offer of our full multi room package for the next 12 months at 50 % less than we were paying ,so why not just offer that in the first place .
And after that it's either cancel again and carry on with plan B or see what they come up with

It really winds me up that loyalty counts for nothing nowadays. We've been with Virgin for tv and broadband for years. They keep putting our price up and all they'll offer if we complain at renewal time is faster broadband. We're already getting 50 meg though and don't really need anything faster.

Meanwhile my stepson has just come back from living abroad, signs up to Virgin and instantly gets offered a deal of 50% off for the first 12 months. We really should threaten to cancel, I know... seems to be the only way to get a deal out of these jokers.

Yep same with most, they just want as many knew people joining as possible, once you're with them then you're forgotten.

I have neither sky or Virgin etc etc just Netflix and Amazon prime and catch up TV stuff.

The later pages are quite new, some unreal offers.I think I'm now paying around £130 a month full HD package phone and BB no multi room though.
Will be cancelling also and hoping for a much better deal.

My OH has an account with sky and was paying about £50 per month and she was thinking of just going with freeview and they said she could have 12 months at £25 but the catch was being "locked in" to a contract for that period

Yep that's exactly what we have done ,half price for 12 months sounds good enough to me ,the alternatives we looked at Apple t.v ,Netflix, etc all worked out a bit less not much though but keeping our normal package was the deal breaker

Likewise, we've been with VM (and all their predecessors) since they first laid a cable in Bristol. We are on the XL TV package with second TV box in the bedroom, land-line phone and 150Mb broadband - we even have our mobiles with them - and the price had slowly crept up to over £90 per month. I rabg them to reduce the package to something more realistic and all they wanted to do was get me to take extra channels so I told them to cancel the whole lot as from my next bill date which was about 3 weeks away. Two days before the next bill date I got a call asking me to confirm my cancellation, which I did. Within 30 minutes I got another call offering me the same package I was already on at 50% for 12 months - result!

It'll be interesting to see what they say at the end of the 12 months and I refuse to pay the normal price - I wonder if they'll do it again :)

If you're with sky just cancel the package and sign up in your partner name to get new customer deals. Rince and repeat.

Vm have been pretty good here, only £3/month rise in 3 years when they put everyones Internet speed up.

I believe they're wise to that now.
90 days needed before a new account opened at the same address unless it's a different surname, then you're OK.

I would not want a 12 month "locked in" deal in my name as it's a potential liability if the OH decides to cancel for any reason - I'm generally against the whole concept of locked in contracts (mobile phones are an example) so would always avoid them.

Now tv I vote for - use it with the apple tv. There are frequent offers on (I currently have the movie package for £4.99 per month. And entertainment is free with my vodafone contract. All the good channels, very happy!
