Hi I am currently awaiting a sky phone line and broadband package but they are really messing me about its a new build i know it might be something to do with that but should i stay and wait it out or go to the likes of BT any one who has these let me know please. and what offers you got at the time of order just incase that will help.

BT have to provide your landline anyway? Sky just provide the services that use the line. Personally I've been with Sky for 2 years now and my parents have used them for a good few years previous to me. The broadband service is excellent, well worth the wait.

I wouldn't touch BT Broadband with a barge pole after hearing the horrors my mate has gone through with them. It was ridiculous enough that they wanted £140 off me just for flicking a switch to activate the line for me

Have you considered O2 ?
If you have Be* LLU in your area (check your exchange using www.samknows.com ) you can have upto 24mb speed (note the average is probably only half this), if you have an o2 mobile its only about £9 a month. If you just go for non LLU with them its only £7 a month, no cap on either.
I'm just about to change from them. I did consider sky but the variable quality of service put me off.

BT are now selling the line to sky I have nothing to do with bt at all they are going to pay the £122 connection fee (for new builds) its just the lack of customer services I have been promised calls day after day but I have to call them to chase it up. the latest update is the phone connection has been cancelled and will be replaced with a new one my only concern is when when when!!!

As a BT Engineer, i can tell you without doubt it is not just a case of "Flicking a Switch". And remember, BT IS a business, so they are here to make money, not give people things fro free. You wouldn't go to Tesco and tell them you should get the grocerys for free because you don't agree with the price would you??

BT don't sell the line, they rent it, it is called WLR - Wholesale Line Rental. It basically means any Comms Provider can give you a billing service, but your line will allways be something to do with BT. It is like the enrgy companys. British Gas provides your gas through their exisiting network, but somebody else will handle all the billing etc.

Unfortunately this causes allsorts of problems when it comes to customer services. The problem is, the public demanded it by moaning about prices. Now when there is an issue, instead of dealing with the Organ Grinder, you have to talk to the Monkey first, then they get onto the Organ Grinder etc. etc.

We have just changed to skys surf, speak, see thingy from tiscali, sky+ box got installed really quick and broadband changed over with no hassle at all, and is really brilliant. But we are having awful trouble with the line rental with the telephone, currently having a battle with them as they say one thing but do another. When the bills come through, we have never had a correct one and when you phone up to get it sorted you just go round in ever decreasing circles.

Hi Amy, this is what im worried about, they are running round in circles with me in the same new build 3 doors away they ordered everything after me and guess what they have it all working. so they cant blame the new estate.

You never know how good a provider is untill something goes wrong

Call them and ask were their technical and customer support call centers are located.

Its quite difficult talking technical with some one who has English as a second or third language, not that I am good it it my self.

I had Orange and thought it was brilliant untill after 2 years they managed to get my line disconected. Ended up going back to BT on their unlimited anytime package option 3, supposed to be under £40 a month. First months bill came in at over £90.

we get our line through sky now, think we pay £10 a month and £5 for anytime calls free (certain numbers excluded) and not had any issues, also got sky BB and had a few problems at first but all is fine now. recommended from me

Why don't people just ask Blue?

As it's a new build then there is a possibility that lines are already installed and you *may* be obliged to go with BT initially. Trying to undo what is already in progress may cause even more problems so I would suggest you try and get Sky bump-started.

You should have looked at the Which best buy for combined line rental and broadband. Then called me ;)

/edit - in what way are they messing you about?

Hi blue,

I ordered everything on23rd of December got dates and had to change them, no problems so far

fault one

salesman miss sold me, Having been a cable customer for many years the new house does not have cable as an option, i explained what i had and what i wanted
2 boxes with all channels fast internet and a phone line (I had VIP package) he explained a few offers to me and i ruled out then HD+ box got
1 standard box for kids room then 1 + box for the living room £40 bar sports.
phone free
connect broadband £10. for 12 months then £17. a month

ALL SUPPLIED AND FITTED FREE

2 sky guys turn up as arranged

straight away says no multi room we are not touching the dish I said oh come on then backed down as its not the end of the world they say ok we need to call in the changes after a 20 min phone call the sky man says while talking to customer service "NO you can tell him cause im not" and passes the phone to me, hello sir you would like to down grade to one box I say yes he says OK you will need to pay wait for it.......... "240.00 I flipped and sent him away, went back to the sky retail stall and flipped give me another option no fancy discounts but hay **** happens kids going nuts no tv no phone no internet..... so ....... one week later sky tv 3 weeks later 10+ calls to chase it still no phone or internet and until an hour ago no soloution as we stand it has been cancelled of and re done but I will have to wait 7-10 days for the process to be cancelled then god knows how long for it to be on.....I have missed out all the phone calls and stupiod excusses i was given.

They haven't got the hang of putting everything in at once. The sky (TV) installers really don't like doing anything unless the phone line is already in.
