Does anyone else have this problem with Sky+ and trying to watch films. Any channel, just films, the sound quality is utter crap. We normally have our volume on 24 but yesterday watching a film we had to put it on 80 and it was still crap quality.

It's only films though, can be any channel and then the adverts (if there are any) come blaring on and we get deafened

I moan about this all the time and I'm on Virgin. I reckon it's the sound recording when they do the film, coupled with the fact that actors mutter their lines often these days. Watch an old Bette Davis film or any B&W film of that era and you'll hear every word, so it isn't down to audio recording equipment which must be vastly advanced since then.

Not noticed it on plain old vanilla sky, sound is always a consistent volume level no matter what the material.

now getting me sky box to flick through the channels without locking up and needing to be removed from the power is anther matter :bang:

It's a conspiracy to get us all on HD I tell ya

its Dolby Digital, the sky + box is set to that as standard IIRC so you need to get in the settings and turn DD off unless you have a surround setup, inwhich case turn that on and you should hear better. I turned mine off but have run it through 7.1 and it sounds ace..

It's all okay on our normal Sky box upstairs but yes, I know exactly what you mean with older films, the quality is better

I'm all for these conspiracies and think you may be on to something  As mentioned before, our normal Sky box is okay and if it wasn't for having a crappy 17" tv upstairs we'd go up there and watch films - can't win, great screen downstairs but crap sound and go upstairs for crap screen, good sound

Cheers Matty, we shall have a looksee at that and sort it out then. Dan said it's almost as if it's surround sound without the speakers. we do have surround sound but it's in the loft as Dan hasn't fitted it

did a little test tonight, deffo dolby digital as the culprit. turn on your surround sound or tirn off DD
