I'm currently planning an assault on Sky, looking to switch my broadband & phone to them, and upgrade to HD as it's cheap at the moment. As customers of 8 years, who has the full TV package, I reckon there's some negotiation to be had for some cheeky deals (I managed to get a £50 Sky+ box by threatening to leave a few years ago, which was 1/4 of the going rate at the time).

Does anybody work for Sky, or know what kind of deals they are offering at the moment if you manage to get through to the cancellations department (they are usually the guys with the ability to negotiate)???

Cheers peeps!!! :D :D

Sky HD is now £49 for every one but existing customers have to wait 3 months for instalation. Remember also that there is a £10 addition to your monthly subs to watch the few extra chanels, Don't know why as it dosent cost any extra to send them to you.

You may be able to negotiate on the £10 but you will be lucky to get anything else.

Sometimes when you tell them you want to cancell to do just say by, knowing you will be back in a couple of months.

My goodness you've paid full price for all channels for that length of time? :cuckoo: :) Madness!

There have been lots of periods over the years when I've reduced the package from full package to a lower rate package/channels and explained we couldn't afford it [we could but they don't know that!]. Every so often we would get a call from Sky offering us the full package at a reduced rate upon which I took up the offers.

NOW if you want to barter a bargain, it's best to go the route you want and state you want HD at the advertised price even though it's for new customers [though this isn't strictly true!]. If Sky say you can't, threaten that you are quite happy to cancel Sky totally and invest in purchasing a Freeview. That's when you'll probs get a reaction!! If not, say your goodbyes and hang up. Phone back later again that day or following [you never get the same operator twice!] and repeat those steps!

It's the thought of losing you as a customer completely will be the panic button for Sky! They'll do anything to keep you and offer you a deal at some point!

The HD subscription £10 per month also covers the recording subscription is equal to Sky+ at the moment.

I have to say I've considered taking up the offer now that we have an HD telly but there is a minimal amount of HD stations available on Sky to warrant a changeover!

An ex-boyfriend used to work for Sky. I've been told they can be strict employers and have shoe inspections!?!

I recently went for a Humax Freesat HD PVR. Okay, not many HD channels YET, but sooner or later they'll get here. I did this as a spend to save measure as I hate the idea of paying so much for ever - would rather pay £380 installed for a guaranteed 3 years. Not sure how many months with Sky and their subscription rates that would be!

I'm also still on the edge of getting HD to replace my old non + sky box.....as a customer of years and years paying 30 odd quid a month I don't see why I should have to pay the install fee when new customers are getting let off it.

whats your opinion of the humax, as I have been looking into getting it..

currently, my sky+ is filled with regular programming - bbc, itv, e4 etc.

We find that there is sufficient content on Freeview for us, so it works out. You get HD content on BBC HD each night but not much different content - ITV also have the odd program. I understand that there are other free HD channels such as Luxe - but never bothered with them.

We have had a Humax for the last three iterations - using Freeview on a PVR hard drive with EPG. Would never go back. I guess we are used to the interface - it has the record the whole series and lets you know when you try to record a program that there is a HD version available. And after paying for it, its free.

Have a look at http://www.freesat.co.uk/

I reckon with enough balls, you should be able to get them to drop the installation fee! I'm going to try it tonight or tomorrow, so I'll let you know how I get on!! :D

In all honesty, they still give better deals to their new customers rather then the existing ones. I was going to switch all my Broadband/Phone to them as well however the deals just aren't attractive compared to a newbie. :shake:

Candlestick, I have just done exactly what you are planning, I was with BT for my telephone and BB (up to 8mb and option 3) I already have a sky+ deal running.
Sky arnt doing much in the way of discounts at the moment, I had to pay:
£30 installation
49 Sky+HD box so initial payment of 79 is non negotiable.

Our package is now:
Sky+HD 35 + 9.75 (family and movie packages + standard HD charge per month)
8-16mb ADSL MAX £10 per month
Unlimited call Scheme £5 per month going up a fiver in 6 months.

Wicked, cheers Brendy that is gives me an idea of cost - does the additional £5 unlimited call scheme include mobiles??

No but it is as cheap if not cheaper than most providers from what I could see.

They have not charged the £10 Sky+ record scam for a few years now, why re-introduce it for Sky-HD apart from just another scam, it costs them no extra for you to record there often repeated over compressed programing.

while i agree with your comments, you are incorect that they dont charge this £10 for sky+ recording, they drop the charge if you have multi-room, otherwise you have to cough up.

I upgraded to hd and dropped the sports channel to cover the monthly subscription so i broke even, i have to admit the quality is brilliant though, on my 46" Sony Bravia it looks stunning, why only 1080i though?

But so many people phone up threatening to cancel that they will happily put you through to the cancelation's department.....knowing that if you've had sky for 8 years there is no way you'll want to go back to the freeview crap. I know someone who did it...and got 'fine, i'll put you through to cancelations now...' and had to promptly put the phone down lol.
Worth asking though.
