After seeing one at the weekend in a hide being used with a gimbal head resting on the shelf. I looked into the price of one almost had a heart attack at the price. So I decided to make one this morning in between jobs.

Works ok tbh. I even surprised myself.

The ground pods are stupidly expensive for what they are. A Frying pan and a 3/8 UNC bolt is all you need to make one. If you use a larger diameter frying pan the gimbal head should fit inside the frying panel, great for getting that low perspective and pushing it in front of you when crawling across sand. I can see why you have gone for the smaller diameter and raised block if it’s for use in a hide.

I’ve been using the cheap version for about 3-4 years. A friend uses a baking tray with bean bag!!!

Seeing the Seals report reminds me of seeing a guy at Donna Nook some years back whose kit I cannot recall but I think Canon and he had the ground pod made out of a frying pan like slider with a Gimbal on it but to aid his low PoV he was using a 'right-angle finder adaptor' that meant he did not have to lay on the sand but was sitting bent over the camera........................likely had it's own discomfort issues compared to laying down.
