I’ve been asked by a member of my family to print some photos that I took, just some snap shots 6x4 rather than the usb stick I gave them. Looking on photobox as it’s cheap and cheerful I’m having problems as they are cropping the image. I can live with the crop on most as there is space around the image but some are portrait mode so I lose heads or feet. I use a Canon 1d3 just as a hobby and I’m guessing it’s to do with the aspect ratio. Can I resize in photoshop and if so can anybody help with what size I need? Photobox has the option of auto fill but gives white lines down the side.
thanks

6x4 is 3:2 ratio and AFAIK all Canon full frame and APS-C crop sensor are 3:2 ratio sensors.

Therefore, provided you are cropping in post with "keep aspect ratio"......you should not be having an issue!

PS just had a look and the 1D3 sensor size is 3888 x 2592px and indeed is 3:2 ratio.

PPS IMO.....if when you post process create files to suit the 6x4 inch print size as borderless i.e. 1800 X 1200 pixels @ 300ppi resolution. If you then decide you want borders "they" should simply shrink it at the aspect ratio and create an even border on all sides. NB but what does Photobox have to say on the matter???

Thanks for your reply, some photos that I’ve not cropped still are too big for photobox’s size guide and don’t allow for the full image to fit. I’ll check that I have ‘keep aspect ratio’ selected but I think it is. ive Not spoken to photobox as I rarely print and anything I’ve printed in the past has had enough space around the subject to allow a smaller view and just thought it was to do with the sensor size of the 1d.
thanks again for the reply I appreciate it

"Too big" may mean that the file you are uploading is too high a resolution. Check Photobox's recommended pixel sizes for images and print resolution and export/resize your jpeg files to those settings

I would normally export from Photoshop (or anything else) at the print size at 300 dpi (some printers sometimes advise other resolutions but ignore that here). Strictly, it's not the resolution but the pixel size that matters. So for 6" x 4" it would be 1800 x 1200 px. For portrait, if Photobox doesn't have an auto-rotate facility, I'd rotate those too whilst I was at it.

I finally got round to resizing these photos an uploading them. They all fitted within the photobox print box at 1800 x 1200. Thanks for the advice everybody
