Six Nations

Even better result for Scotland - Annihilation

Really enjoyed the France/Wales game last evening. Played (for the most part) in great spirit with plenty of action.

I like being a mongrel during the 6 nations - got assorted blood so it's only a Wales/Italy game that I don't have some sort of blood involved (and only ?/Wales or Italy that I'm in any way slightly partisan!

Some very odd results this year. Too many yellow and red cards deciding the outcomes.

A really interesting 6 Nations this year.

I am gutted though, I thought Wales had it.

Its the first time I hadn't really enjoyed it. I didn't realise how much the fans make it

England was well below par this season with going on rubbish teamwork.
The France V Wales math was one of the best and most interesting 6 nations matches that I have seen.
Wale panicked towards the end and lost their heads and the Game. quite unnecessarily.
France kept theirs, and forced a brilliant win against the odds.
The referee was excellent and made the right calls. the cards were inevitable and absolutely correct.
With the fourth official and video evidence there is very little that you can get away with now, and the players should know it.
If you get a card these days you have no excuses. for many offences they are mandatory.

The only thing I didn’t miss was was folk needing past you when an important play was going on, although there was no queue for a drink in the hoose.

Huh? I thought they did, topping the table by 5pts best France can do is gain 4 losing it by 1pt ... Or you mean with a clean sweep I guess?

Wales currently have a +61 points difference to France’s +41, so a win of 21 points or more over Scotland, should they score four tries, will be enough for FRance to win the six nations - so I have read ;)

I was meaning I thought they’d beaten France and got the Grand Slam as well as the championship.

It’s not over yet, ‘mon Scotland. ;)

Come on Scotland, France!!! (Punctuation makes all the difference. Sometimes!)

Looking not too bad for Wales then atm (y)

Four tries gives a bonus point, which would mean Wales and France equal on points in the table. So then it is down to the points scored difference. France need to be more than 20 points ahead of Scotland.

With Ireland out of the running, I'd much rather see Scotland in 2nd, unlikely as it stands but also I'd much prefer Wales to win it than the French. Just a Gaelic thang ;)

As an Englishman I can support other nations in games not involving England. The entire 6 nations was spoilt for me when the referee gave two score to Wales against England but England still did not play well enough to win anyway. I am happy to support the Irish because of the way they have played for some years now. Wales are close neighbours so happy to support them. Scotland is more difficult because they are so unfriendly to the English, they do not deserve my support. Nevertheless I did support them this evening and they did very well against France. Good to see Adam Hastings who is about to join my local Premier League team who won tonight having got their England players back though having to give up several players for Scotland.

Even if the ref didn't award the 2 dodgy 'uns, going by the final score Wales would have still beaten England, not bad considering a population of just under 3.5m to pick from compared to just over 55 million. Last night was all a bit of an anti-climax, there's nothing worse IMHO than depending on other teams results.
By and large the refereeing in the tournament was pretty good, the odd dodgy call granted, but most were consistent, they will have been briefed pre-tournament to be ruthless with dangerous play (esp. around the head) and to be ruthless with the cards, but some players just don't learn.

Gatland ( to replace Eddie Jones? , you read it here first) will have some difficult decisions to make for the up and coming lions tour after watching this tournament.

Why, oh why did Dulin not kick to touch? Franve were in the lead, the clock red.

Approx Half a million English people live in Scotland, and I'm sure most would disagree with your comment....

I saw that comment as well and my first thought was thanks SNP

They were my thoughts too. Only thing I can think is that he/they wanted to try for the bonus points and the title.

This does not reflect the concentration of Rugby Union in certain areas only. In wales they play Rugby Union and I am sure most welsh boys have rugby stars as idols. In the SW of England where I live the sport is primarily Rugby. At the school I went to Rugby was played and talked about all the time and Football not a topic to even mention. This also explains why nearly half the premier Clubs are from the SW of England. Nevertheless, England does have more professional players to choose from but that does not always seem to be a huge advantage as it is too easy to pick the wrong player or not create a good team atmosphere. If I had to pick a welsh team it would be easier than choosing an English team for those reasons but that is what Eddie Jones is paid for.

Barely related, but Joey Carberry [outside main team generally] for Ireland is my 2nd cousin. He's been involved in some decent games [Win Vs the All Blacks in particular] but is prone to injury.

Well done Wales, deserved no doubt. Was just a bonus point between Us and France in end, and I'd be confident enough that if we ran it again Ireland would do better, only team we'd fear would indeed be Wales.

My original prediction was that the winner of the Wales/Ireland match in the first round would go on to win the Championship. While this has proved to be true, I had thought that Ireland would have won that first match.

Tbh, Ireland were not the best in the earlier games, took them a few to wake up, they can do better. Wales always tough for us, I think we're very similar in many ways

My thoughts.
It‘s been a strange six nations but well done Wales for dogged determination.
Scotland seem to be much improved over recent years.
Ireland are on the up but I wonder if some of their key players are getting on a bit.
England needed a few beatings to show Eddie Jones his bloody minded stubbornness is not the only answer. Also, several previously undroppables may have played their last game for England. I can’t see Mako V or perhaps even brother Billie playing for England again.
France have been less of an enigma this season and I think they will do very well in the World Cup.
Hopefully next season the crowds will be back and they won’t look like the training games they have this season.

An interesting six nations altogether and a well deserved win for Scotland yesterday. I don't think France played their best but I don't know how much of that was to do with a strong and disruptive Scotland. I'm lost at what Dulin was thinking when he didn't kick the ball out9or pass it to someone else to kick) after the eightieth minute.

Except that was out of the question as they needed 18 points, I think.

No.

France had 15 points and needed all three of these:
A win.
A bonus point.
A score 21 or more points better than Scotland.

France got a losing Bonus Point yesterday.

If France had won, with a bonus point just, then they'd be at 20 right? but Wales would still win on score points difference? I'm not that big into rugby, only watch when ireland are involved tbh, but that's how I'm seeing it

France had 15. Wales had 20.

To win the championship

France needed a win - 4 points, giving them 19, but Wales had 20 so
France needed to score 4 tries or more - 1 Bonus point, giving them 20, equal with Wales, but Wales had a better points difference so
France needed to better Wales's points difference. The only way to do this was to score 21 or more points more than Scotland.

In the end they lost by 7 points or fewer so got a Bonus point.

Rugby in Wales is by and large played in the South, with just 4 professional sides (Ospreys, Cardiff, Scarlets and Dragons, although there are a small number of games played in North Wales) it's wendyball payed by the majority in North Wales I think.
