Site Intro - naff?

I think it works really well..
Really gives a personal touch and invites you to see YOUR work instead of just a set of images...
Might have to use a photo of me of mine.... but that would just scare people away lol

Thats what I thought. I have hand written / drawn the logo and also hand written the navigation in a deliberate attempt to get an online note / scrap book feel.

Here is a a VERY EARLY sneak peek of the future site, and my aunt and uncles wedding anniversary. Crap pics but got a chance to test my new upload script extensively.

Feedback welcome :)

Crap pix??? behave!
I really like the feel with the handwritten text..
Like the homepage.. its very personal and feels like YOU are really showing the pix instead of us just browsing through them.
Great work mate.. keep at it!

Have you thought about using thumnails instead of just previous and next?

I like the idea a lot....text may be too long to read for any casual visitors though, but I do like it!

There will be a thumbnail gallery for each section, still lots to program and the default view will eventually be thumbnail, but focusing on the meat and bones of the site at the moment. Everything written by hand, C#.net, css and html. It's killing me!!

tell me about it lol..
I've had to take an easier way out as I've got to load up about 150 images per session as I do alot of event photography.
Am still looking for a better way of doing it though.

Surely it's the PP that kills you and not the uploading? 150 images is a lot to organise, I would be tempted to write a script which takes a bunch of common values "Event name, Set name, Date, Category" etc, and then you do a batch upload and let your script work out where to display them on your site...not a very good way of explaining it....but would be a great system.

hmmm I know where u are coming from.. but im selling the pix and have to upload each one individually.
i use joomla... do u have any other way of doing it? wold love a better shop format.
As for the pp.. i use lightroom to crop and shrink. then an action in photoshop to copright & sharpen.. the pp is the easy bit lol

Are they all individually priced?

Gary.

No experience of Joomla I am afraid, in .NET would be relatively straight forward to do bulk upload and sort, however the more variations per file, the higher the time cost. If every one of your photos is individually priced for example, you have no choice BUT to go through a manual process per file.

cracking website IMO.

it has a nice personal feel to it and the images of the wedding help with that.

most gallery sites are just that, a load of images that are left to speak for themselves but yours is different

I like the layout , very casual and personal, makes the viewer want to see more!

Small point, 'Mark' in the fireplace shots looks like he's pee'd his breeks, bit of photoshop required methinks.

The only thing I would say is why call yourself "an enthusiastic amateur photographer"? You take pictures so you're a photographer. I always feel that using "amateur" cheapens yourself. JMHO

Well I wanted to make the distinction between professional (what I aspire to be), and where I am at the moment. I realise a photographer is a photographer regardless of skill, but still I personally feel in order to call yourself one, you need an inclination about what you are doing...and at times, I haven't a clue! :cuckoo:

Thanks for looking at the site guys, lots more to be added..

I like the front page, it has a nice personal touch. I'm not so keen on the style of the links; I think that a graphic button would be nicer, just my personal opinion though.

The comments about the photos add a nice touch, which is very interesting to other photographers, though it would not work if this were a commercial site to sell your photos.

Please run a spelling check on the site as I did notice a few spelling mistakes. It's very easy to miss these when you are working hard to design the site. The white balance needs adjusting on some of your photos, but I realise these are just beta versions.

Good luck with your site. I think it will work very well in the finished version.

Spill the beans on the spelling!! :)

Yeah the links might be a little TOO messy. My handwriting is terrible.

I like the idea a lot, but I have to tell you that the layout seems to be a bit broken in Safari on the Mac. It seems that it wants to put all the links in one "column" and the content (pictures) in another column off to the right...

Kind of like this...

Code:
logo
link 1 link 2 link 3 ... link x
                                            image image description

I hope you see what I mean, but if not let me know and I'll post screenshots...

I'm liking the site, very fresh and different :)

The only thing I can think of is to add tittles to your gallery pages rather than the "Untitled Page" they have currently.

Gary, For what it's worth, I think you are on to a winner.

I wouldn't know where to start designing a website but I know what I like and I like the look/feel of this. :)

Arrrghhh!!!

Just noticed my "smaller" images are being multiplied x 4 in file size compared to the full size....

Need to go and work out whats up with it, pain in the you know what.

Oooops!!! Got to the bottom of it. The thumbnails have been getting saved as Image.Jpeg, however the actual content of the file is a Bitmap!!!

Sorted now. No wonder they were so large.
