Woohoo!

However, this thread is tainted with sadness.

I am 34, have no dependents, and live in a flat in Mordor with my girlfriend. We like our music, were in a band together for a few years, and spend a lot of our time and cash being involved with it.

I work a 9-5 dull grey job for a dull grey corporation doing dull grey work for dull grey people, and love it, because when I close the door after work all my time is my own.

A new girl has started working with us who is 22. On Monday, we were chatting, and she asked what I was up to at the weekend.

"Well" said I, "I kick off on Thursday going to see the Sisters Of Mercy at The Forum."

She looked blank.

My colleague spun 'round in his chair laughing, and said "You have no idea who he's talking about, do you? Hahahahaha - they're a goth band."

"Oh" she replied, "What? Like emo?"

That day, a little part of me died.

She lives under my patio now.

Emo was the worst thing that ever happened to Goth.

I'm not really much of a goth any more (I think the last label I had was graver - goth raver - no idea where that one came from) but because I tend to wander around town in my tailcoat and fedora and only ever wear black I get accused of being an Emo.

I 'kin hate it!

My local goth night has one which says "It's not all doom and gloom" which I really want.

BTW - I'm jealous about the SoM gig - never seen them live, and not a huge fan, but I've been told by a friend of mine that they're fantastic live....

I've not either. He has some fantastic quotes live, apparently:

Okay, hippy scum, here it comes!"

"Now that we've had sex, I'm going to smoke."

"Hey Inglese, why you no play Temple Of Love?"

"Shut up!"

"We're not here for conversation, so just keep it quiet ... and that includes you!"

"Maybe I should tell some leper jokes like we did in Boston. Are there any lepers in the house?"

"Stop bickering!"

"We are also from the Land Of Lard, but of course we come from the better part of it." [In Manchester]

"What did you come as?"

"We are the light at the end of your sorry little tunnel."

"It's all a matter of technique. We have it, and you don't, so if you shut the ****** up, we'll play some songs and everyone'll be happy."

"You are very very bad people and you must be punished."

"Shut the ****** up!"

Also - offstage: "I don't necessarily agree with everything I think".

Except emo has nothing to do with goth :) I don't think those into emo are particularly aware of the history of emo either, which isn't whinging teens.

Agreed - and I think what makes it worse that a lot of "outsiders" don't see a difference between goths and emos (except goths have better dress sense, taste in music and tend to be older....)

Sing with me now!

"25 whores in the room next door - 25 whores and I need more ... "

*jazz hands*

What are they doing in the room next door???

Is it in a white house in the middle of russia?

I saw them last night in Leeds. I've nothing more to add.

Did you do jazz hands? I'm determined to do jazz hands tonight.

"In the temple of love" *jazz hands* "shine like thunder, in the temple of love" *jazz hands* "cry like rain ... "

Last time I saw them was a couple of years ago at a pub in Leeds. They called themselves Methadone Pretty. Great night, it was so hot they had a break in the set so every one (including them)could cool down for a bit.

Amusing... I remember reading about the original split of the SoM when Wayne Hussey and Mr E both started new bands called the Sisterhood. Wayne Hussey's Sisterhood performed one gig under that name and guested Ian Astbury. Quote of the night from Wayne...

"Andrew Eldritch wears a wig."

Touché... :)

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I'd love to see the sisters again :(

Hope it was a blinding night filled with "some girls who wander by mistake"

Nothing, and I repeat NOTHING beats the gig they did upstairs in The Fenton (Leeds) back in 95 (I think).
Although they did one in the Josephs Well two or three years later that was pretty cool too - although many more people turned up for that.
Both had smoke issues, unsprisingly.

Seen them a couple of times at Rock City and once at manchester apollo - only one of the 5 was a bad gig and that was down to ****** sound.

Did they say anything about the new album (Which they have said at every gig for the past 10 years...)

My youngest son is EMO nothing to do with goth whatsoever its completely different music and dress sense its more of a fashion statement as they love their hairstyles more than anything else as far as I can see

saw em at Rock city a couple of time back in the day , i was never a massive fan of the records but live was something else
