I love going to see his home at Chartwell. Never tire of going there.

I was 11 at the time and I remember watching the funeral on our B+W TV. There was sadness about his death but no full on showing of grief as in certain fairly recent passings.

I remember watching it on TV and my grandmother saying,”Mr. Churchill wouldn’t want all this fuss”, and my father retorting “why the old b******d would stand up and wave if they hadn’t screwed the lid down.” My dad a WW2 ex parra never minced his words and was never afraid of giving offence, but for all that he was a patriotic royalist all his life.
