Very sad indeed. I was watching The Sky At Night only a few nights ago and thinking how incredible it was that he had been presenting it for so long. Such a clever and interesting man.

That's a real shame. One of the few competent science educators and a real character too.

oh what a shame that is R.I.P Sir Patrick Moore

It was probably The Sky At Night that first got me to look to the stars when I was young. RIP. :(

Just heard about this, very sad. There arnt many left like Sir Patrick.

RIP.

Sad to hear Patrick Moore is no longer with us.
As a boy in the 1950s I read all his books on astronomy and also his space travel fiction
novels. R.I.P.

Now resting amongst the stars.

Very sad but a great man.

Like many thousands of others I reckon my interest in astronomy started with Patrick Moore. He had a good life and achieved enormous amounts but it's still sad to see him go though.

A very good astronomer and presenter, but with some quite repulsive political views.

Very sad indeed; he was a catalyst that got me started in astronomy .. he will be sorely missed.

He must have inspired countless thousands in his career. He was one of a kind RIP Sir Patrick.

His enthusiasm got me interested in just what is out there.

The night sky will be darker tonight. A star has gone out.

As a lifelong astronomer, this is a very sad day for me. He's been a constant through my entire life. Will be sorely missed

R.I.P

:(

A legend in his own space & time continuum, and ours.

An amazing xylophone/glockenspiel player as well

Light speed, Sir Moore, light speed. You will be missed.

i'm not ito RIPing people i've never met but that wierd constelation thing is cool

He was a legend, bit of a cliche but one of a kind. There was no-one like him, great enthusiast and inspired many. Great man.

RIP Gamesmaster.

Oh yeah I forgot he was the legendary GM!

It is such a shame. I'm sat here selling off a load of astronomy equipment on SGL and looking at the equivalent thread there which has had nearly 400 posts since it was announced. A real loss.

I bet JSER is mortified.

Glad you remembered..................:D

Have you given up on Astro photography then? and I agree.... a very sad loss with Sir patrick's death! .....

Too many things to do so reducing it to just having a scope for viewing. I've been watching the sky at night for 30 years. I knew this was going to happen but it's still a shock when it does.

When watching the last couple of TSAN's I couldn't help but think of how frail Sir Patrick looked and sounded. Credit to him for carrying on presenting for as long as he did, it was remarkable.

Sad loss to a hobby that is more popular than ever.

Met Patrick several times at London Astrofest a years back, He was bit of a character on life and politics and very funny too.

I heard on the radio that he held the record at his local golf club for the highest score for one round .......... 240. He took 43 strokes at the 3rd hole ! I am sure he would have not been remotely troubled by that. He was an unshakeable man.

I liked the quote I read on the BBC about why he joined The Monster Raving Loony Party in the 80's....he said something like "they have an advantage, they already know they are loonies"
