I need time out, my poor brain needs down time from home and from work. I am looking to do either a couple of mid week breaks over Easter or weekends over the next few months.

I want to take camera with me, not worried about eating out alone etc .. do need to feel secure in my room.

So does any one do this or am I the only single person in need of time out that is unsure of where to go or places to stay.

Can anyone recommend anywhere ...
 
If you find anywhere let me know lol...

I've got two weeks off coming up in April (first two weeks off together in 5 years) and not sure whether to just jump on a plane and lie on a beach (not much fun solo) or do a photo holiday!!

Am tempted to jump in the car and drive over to France/Belgium and just drive around and B&B it and see where it takes me...

Am really short of ideas as it's been so long since I've had a proper holiday I don't know what to do with myself lol !
 
Snap! been looking at beach and chilling - can drive so not worried about that. Or just doing a day or two in each place and moving on. Got to be fairly cheap, do not want to sleep in the bus lol.
 
Have considered Turkey, Thailand etc adn found some cheap all inclusives, personally not to bathered about how well specc'ed the hotel is as long as there is a safe in the room as only time I would be in the room would be to sleep lol!

Turkey can be had for as cheap as £250 for 7 days !!!
 
Looked on Last Minute dot Com at Turkey and Greece the other night, but not sure how 'safe' I would feel in a country I do not speak the language in or know on my own. Also looked at a few cities and lodges here, but sunshine is drawing me lol.
 
Would go abroad if you can :D

If you feel unsafe in an area read internet reviews about the location and city your visiting :)

Luckily am big and ugly enough to not worry about that lol :D
 
olu deniz is a very nice and safe resort in turkey
we went there last year and going again in july
they speak superb english so no need to worry about the language barrier
 
Thats come up a couple of times on my searches....

Only concern I have with going there i bumping into my ex Turkish girlfriend :D

I visit Brittany several times a year - the people are charming - dont worry if you cannot speak French - just bumble along - it's part of the fun

otherwise have you considered northern Scotland - some great scenery and the B&Bs are quite cheap too...
 
I stayed here http://www.ciliota.it/HOTEL.swf in Venice a couple of years ago, and my husband has stayed there a couple of times since. I found prices to reasonable, and they included breakfast. The rooms were clean and I felt safe in them on my own. I also felt safe walking around the streets on my own too (even away from all the tourists - though having the tripod over my shoulder probably doubled as an offensive weapon!)

Admittedly, I wasn't on my own at night (my husband was there for work), but there was 3 restraunts in the sqaure literally 1 minute walk away, and it was only 5 mins away from St Marks square.
 
Get yourself a tent and get over to Brands Hatch for the Easter superbikes, good people, great atmosphere and lots of handsome chaps in leather.!
 
Midsnick, I have tent lol but do not want to take you young adults with me and its a 8 sleeper and not got my festival tent yet lol.

Gembob, that certainly looks worth a visit, looking into that in a bit more detail, prices are reasonable too.

John, have Brittney up on google this morning before I pop out. Have considered Scotland, have a friend in Leeds where I could stop over to break the drive up did find a nice cottage too but B&B sounds like a plan too.

also spent a month in Prague - beautiful - English spoken and no worries traveling alone - dont need a car - trams are superb
 
Prague could be a go'er first 5min search and 7 days inc flights £500 :D
 
We went to Olu Deniz last year and while we had a good time I much prefered Bitez near Bodrum where went the year before.

We stayed at the Montana Pine resort in Hisoronu (above Olu Deniz) which is pricy but lovely. The actual area of Hisoronu and Olu Deniz was a bit too commercialised for us. Olu Deniz beach area (national reserve) is lovely but again you have to pay to get in and then pay for a sunbed / shade. Fethiye is the nearest big port and to be honest it isn't very exciting. You can go on some lovely boat trips and there are interesting historical things nearby to photograph like the "ghost town" of Kayakoy or get yoursef to the mudbaths.

Bitez I found to be much more laid back nightlife wise - there is a strip of nice resteraunts along the beach with loads of cushions / hamocks for relaxing in. I would feel safer here on my own than in Olu Deniz. Nearby is Bodrum which was much more interesting than Fethiye - mainly because of Bodrum Castle. You can easily get about using the local Dolmus (small bus) which are very cheap and cheerful. We stayed at the Sirca Apartments which were not expensive and we really enjoyed.

From either place you could take a trip (it would be an over-nighter) to PamukKale:

Which I'm sure would be great photography-wise. Or your could go to a greek island / mainland.

Another place we really enjoyed was Skiathos - very pretty, easy to get about and nice and laid back. Closer to home Edinburgh is a fantastic city with loads to do. Or the Isle of Wight - review of our trip in 2007 is here if you are interested:

cant say i heard of many people not liking olu deniz but we all like different things i suppose
we had a fantastic two weeks there last year and stayed right in the middle of the beach at the belcekiz beach
in fact we re booked it for this july almost as soon as we got back
we didn't even come out of the place for five days and still have not got to the blue lagoon
we also stayed at club latoonia opposite fethiye harbour last year and although that was nice it was just too big a place
Hisoronu was not our cup of tea we mainly stayed in olu deniz except for boat trips ad days out etc

Don't get me wrong - we enjoyed ourselves, I just preferred the area of Bitez / Bodrum. I completely agree that Hisoronu is not particularly nice but I couldn't fault Montana Pine - very relaxing. You should definatly pay the Blue Lagoon a visit this year if you can - although I imagine it is a lot busier in July. We were there late september so had the benefit of a bit of space around us.

Looking at Portugal too, well Lisbon, had a fantastic family holiday there two summers back. Never got to visit Lisbon, so that is on the list of maybe's too.

it's at Ferel near Kernelo
my brother moved to Kernelo 2 years ago near the town of La Roche Bernard - a lovely spot
and now I have a "cheap" hotel to stay at ......:lol:
the countryside is rolling rather than hilly - good for walking and relaxing by the river running through La Roche which is wide enough to support sailboats

have you considered Chamonix Mount Blanc - camped there for a week - serious mountain vistas ..........:thumbs:

Have a look at Begur in the Costa Brava in Spain. I have a house there and have some photos of the local area here.

The locals are very friendly and you would get a very good rate on hotel rooms this time of year. It is not the weather to sit by a pool this time of year but wonderful for walks on deserted beaches and quite Moorish towns.

Fly into Gerona and hire a car, Begur is about 40 minutes drive from the airport.
 
Skala in Cephalonia- small, quiet, friendly. Try the Anassa hotel right on the front- loved it & CHEAP to get there etc. We went with Thomson last year.

I know that feeling!

Any front runners so far? Are you going to book things seperately or do the package thing? If you are thinking package holiday we have been with First Choice to various places and have had no complaints so far. They and Thompson are one and the same now but they are keeping the different brands going - and First Choice often seems to be cheaper to the same place as Thompson...
 
I think a road trip over Easter is going to be the plan for UK - stop over at a friends in Leeds or maybe overnight in Nottingham - nice scenery and looks peaceful - maybe two night's there, then head up to Scotland - Stop at a friends there, have not seen her new place - maybe two nights there, then head back via Newcastle day or two there, have someone I would not mind seeing there depends if they are up for company. If not then I am sure they have travel lodge. Two tanks of diesal should be enough can normally do Leeds and back on one. Hmmm actually that may end up as three, but if staying with mates cuts lodging costs lol.

That should give me a week out with visiting a few people, head space in the car and time out with camera.

Summer or next half term I should have some extra cash to do oversea's, I do like the look of Brittany at this moment in time.

Turkey out of my price range at the moment pah.
 
If you can afford the additional surcharge crusie lines place on single occupancy, then crusing is a great way to travel and meet lots of people.

Can't imagine the photo ops to be that great, something along the lines of:

Day1: Sea
Day2: More Sea, Sea from the other side of the boat
Day3: Sea from the front of the boat, sea from the back of the boat
Day4: Banned as people didn't like photo's taken in the pool
Day5: Cabin
Day6: More Sea
Day7: Coming back into Port

:D :D :D

Great for forcing yourself to do not a lot and relaxing though :D
 
Cruise not my kind of thing, like to walk and explore a little, good idea though :)

Couldn't be more wrong.

On the cruises I go on they stop in at least 8 different countries with organised tours out available or as I do make up your own trip out.

I did not think you got much 'ground time' my brother and his wife and my ex MIL and FIL cruise often, but it seems they are on ground for hours rather than a 'period of time'. Does sound a good way to fit lots of places in :)
 
Sometimes no but some locations yes. Most cruises stopping at St. Petersburg for instance stay for 2 days as tere is so much to see.

Yes sometimes you are only there for 8 hours but that is just likea day out here.

Then you go home again and get dressed up for dinner which is all done for you.
