Since going digital: How often have you upgraded your BODY!

Olympus E330

Pentax 10D
Canon 1000d
Canon 50D
Canon 5D Mk1

Last four within the last 18 months. Found the pentax a bit fiddly on the menu. Also have Nikon F60 film.

Apr 2008 - New 400D
Jan 2009 - Secondhand 5D I
Late 2010 - 5D II

first body canon 20D, added 1D MkIIn beginning of last year, using both with possible future replacement for 20D, but it still a very good camera and taking good images.

Fuji s6900 about 2001
Fuji s602 pro (still have)
Nikon D100
Nikon D70
Nikon D200
Canon 5D + Canon 30D
Canon 5DMk2

Don't even ask about the compacts!

Bought a 400d which sort of broke so replaced with a 5d, just upgraded to a 5dmkII (literally yesterday, the same day my cat dies :()

2007 - 400D
2008 - 5D, sold 400D
2009 - 5Dii, 5D as backup

probbly stay that way for a while (or so I've been told!!!)

I bought my 350D in 2007 and have just upgraded to a 50D

It may be a stupid question, but why do people have two camera's in use at the same time?

2001 - Fuji Finepix 2800
2008 - Canon EOS 450D

That's it, all very dull! I'm currently in the process of building up a lens collection worthy of a better body. I'm still finding my lens line-up the sticking point, and until that changes I won't be investing in a new body!

Chris

Had a Nikon coolpix p&s - got stolen

1Ds (original) - in the for sale section, full frame not really my thing!

Since I'd been a pro. photog years ago I knew what I wanted: at least 8 MP, SLR, through the lens viewfinder, good viewing through the viewfinder, interchangeable lenses.

Checked a few out at Jessops after reading reviews etc online and finally settled for the EOS 350D.

Still have and use it but looking to upgrade to a 50D when I can afford it.

Have bought 2 extra lenses: 17-85mm IS USM and a 70-300mm IS USM telephoto.

Have been very pleased with the 350D and think I made a good choice.

It may be a stupid question, but why do people have two camera's in use at the same time?

So I don't have to change lenses in the field...when I see something I want to photograph, it's usually happening pretty fast - if I faffed about changing lenses, that moment would be gone.

I use a 17-35 on one body (thought that may change eventually to a 28-70 now that we've gone FX - i'm still thinking about it) and a 70-200 on the other...
Plus two other bodies as spares...I have the choice of D3 and D3x to take on jobs, so I'll judge which beforehand, according to the task...

2002 Canon Powershot A20(still have)
2005 Canon 350D
2007 Canon 40D(still have but will sell)
2009/2010 Canon 7D(when prices get sensible!!)

But I keep spensding money on glass!! lol

Ignoring compacts

D70s - 2005 - sold
D80 - sold
D90 - still have (for time being)
D70 - still have
D700 wannabe

Which appears reasonable - 4 DSLRs in 4 years (although compares to 4 SLRs in 25 years)

However if you factor in when I started reading the TP forums which was 9 months ago, it goes

D70s - 2005 - sold
D80 - sold
D90 - still have (for time being)
D70 - still have
D700 wannabe

See a pattern? Until I started looking at TP forums I was quite happy with my gear.

Since then I have spent a fortune upgrading the DSLR and glass, and I still want to go FF.

:-)

So it has nothing to do with Nikon selling new bodies, it has everything to do with the amazing images I see on here, and all the ideas which inspire me to improve my photography.

Good question by the way.

I'd love to be able to afford a new body but the fact is I can't so I'm stuck with my D200 for the time being.

I've used a few Canons at work though as and when we've upgraded; started with a D60 then had a 10D and then a 30D. The 30D was good - the other were crap.

Currently weighing up whether I can afford a D300 if and when there's a sub-£1000 drop announced. Also looking at the D2xs but again, it's money that I haven't got (still got the D200 on he credit card) and with my first born coming in five weeks, money will be well and truly tight... that's a sorry state of affairs for a pro magazine photographer!

nikon 990
canon s1is
canon rebel
canon 20d
canon 5d
canon 40d
canon 1dmk2
canon 1dmk3
canon 7d on order
waiting for a 1dmk4 to come out too :)

I jumped on the digital band wagon in 04

D70 when they were released in March 04
D70s (free upgrade from jessops - long story please do not get me started) after the BGLOD issue on the D70 (D70s passed on to my dad and still going strong)
D200 a little while after that (still own this one)
and now the D3 which was bought August 08

So three cameras in about 5 years give or take, of which I still own all of, is that a bad thing.........

2002 fuji finepix compact
2003 fuji S2 pro
2005 Canon EOS 20D
2009 Nikon D700
2010 Nikon D300 or D700 as 2nd body (if the wife allows)

In the last 11 years, I have had to buy cameras too many times, ~3-4, but most have all been because of burglaries
Last time was to upgrade from a digital to the canon 400d 3 years ago. This was to get a better quality and ISO.
Now looking to upgrade again to the 7d, same reasons.
I try to buy the best quality and features I can afford sensibly at the time, in the hope that I will not quickly outgrow it.
Honestly, I do try to buy for a feature that I ?need? (well don't /need/ a camera, I think I mean a feature that I think needs to be improved for my circumstances, [hmm, stop digging now] ), rather than a gadget I just want. :)

2002 Canon 10D
2004 1D MKii * 2
2006 5D
2008 1D MKiii
2009 5D MKii * 2

I shoot now with the two 5Dii's and the MKiii in the bag as backup.

You'll find out that condoms would have been a lot cheaper ;)
