Just curious really.

I've had 5 digital cameras in the last 9 years...so on average.

just under two years....

started with a 2 Meg fuji compact..then an olympus compact (that I wish I'd never sold)...then a canon S3 IS....canon 400d...now canon 40d...

I did it the other way round. I bought a Nikon D100 in 2003 and quickly realised digital wasn't for me. I now have 30+ film cameras! So in my opinion, I upgraded from the D100 at least thirty times.

Steve.

I'm on my second.. Canon 5D mk II, upgraded from the 5D. I had the 5D classic for about a year.

I'm very happy with the mk II, and I can see I'll be keeping it for many years

A.

I tend to run two bodies in parallel so my history has been:

10D>5D>1DII>1DsII
10D>1DII>50D>7D(soon)

So total of 8 bodies in 6 years (!!)

D100 - sold
D200 x 2 - sold
D300 x 2 - sold
D2Hs x 2 and D3 x 2 - keepers!

BTW that is a LOT more often than when I used film bodies. I used a pair of Nikon F3 bodies for around 20 years!

Olympus Camedia C-3030 (1999) > Nikon Coolpix (something-or-other) (2000) Both while still shooting my main work on Nikon F5 bodies...

Nikon D1x (2002) > Nikon D2x (2005) > Nikon D2xs (2006) > Nikon D3 & D3x (2009)

Since going digital...

Olympus C-2000
Sony DSC-F707
Canon 20D
Canon 1D Mark II N
Canon 1D Mark III

Ignoring a couple of digital compacts while I was still mainly using film...

20D..........Sold
1DMK2n.. ...Sold
40D...... ...Sold
50D X 2 ...Current
7D...........Very soon

Started with 300d, sold for 30d, sold for 40d, sold for 50d sold, now have and i am keeping 1dmkIII and 5d mkII. Maybe!!

Camedia 20-20, fuji 602z, canon 300d, canon 20d, canon 5d, Canon 5dMKII (this week with luck)

Ignoring compacts as they are family use (and we've only had three in 18 years)

I bought my 300D in 2004, my 40D the day they were available in the UK, and recently upgraded that under warrenty to a 50D after the shutter broke. Ok I could have directly replaced the 40D but a minimal investment to get a 50D was a offer too good to miss.

So 3 in 5 years, one 'forced' on me.

I've had 3 "main" bodies over the last 5 years.

Nikon D70 -> Nikon D200 / Fuji S5 Pro -> Nikon D700

Upgraded from the Nikon D700 to Sony A900 just recently.

In the last 3 years, canon 350d, 400d, 5d, 1d mk2, 1d mk3, 5dmk2, !d mk2, !d mk2n, 1d mk3, Still own the last two, But the 1d mk2 is for sale. Think i've got it right now.

D70 (still got)
D200 (sold to help finance)
D700 (still got)

2000 - Sony PCR-110E camcorder that took 1MP stills
2005 - Sony DSC-P200 7.2MP compact
2006 - Canon 30D
2007 - Canon 40D
2008 - Canon 50D and 1D3 and a Fuji F100fd
2009 - maybe a 7D, maybe a 1D4, maybe nothing

I should sell the 30D, 40D and 50D, and my 17-85, to make way for new toys, but I am too lazy to find their boxes and get postage rates etc.. :nono:

got a Casio in 2000 since then have had a Fuji s202, 10d, 20d, Minolta compact, 5d, Casio compact, 5d MK2, so 8 Digital cameras and still got them all too.

As the OP questions BODY upgrade frequency... ... and I assume he means the camera as my other one is in serious decline and urgent need of replacement... ;)

D70s around four years ago - sold for...

D200 - bought from A J Purdy from their first batch and before they went to the wall and still gathering dust in use today... :naughty:

:p

June 2005 > Fuji Compact (still have but never use)
May 2006 > Panasonic Bridge (sold to buy a D70)
April 2007 > Nikon D70 (Kept until upgraded to a D80)
December 2008 > Nikon D300 (now my main camera)
August 2009 > Nikon D80 (replaced the D70 as my back-up camera)
xxxxx 20xx > Nikon D3x (Yeah right!!! I can dream)

1999 - Pentax Espio 140 35mm
2001 - EOS 300 35mm SLR
2002 - powershot A70 digi compact
2004 - powershots S1 IS digi bridge

main ones in bold, always get my use out of them - 30D is still going string as backup cam now, about 140k shutter

Olympus Miu August 2006
Canon 400D May 2007
Canon 1DS MKII March 2008
Canon 1DMKIII October 2008

@ Drew - Thanks :) Boxes are in the loft. One day I might go up there ;)

Sold my 400D and bought a 40D about 18 months ago, having had the 400D for about a year. I'm planning on keeping the 40D for a while longer yet (unless I suddenly find myself able to afford a 5D or a 1DIII...)

First digital for me was canon 350 d bought when they first came out dipping toe in the water to see how good digital was used eos 3's before. following that canon 1d mk2, canon 5d & canon 40d these three cameras used together full frame, 1.3 sensor & 1.6 sensor very useful with 600mm lens 40d is being replaced by canon 7d and the mk 2 will be replaced by the 1d mk 4 in the new year possibly the 5d will make room for the mk2 version so in six years give or take 4 cameras shortly to be 5

I started out with a Canon 350D, and have since had the 400D, 30D,40D and now the 50D :)

Wish I could upgrade *my* body to a better model!

D70s,D200 and a D300,still have them and still use them all.

In 2004 bought Canon 20D, about 5months ago bought another Canon 20D. Saving up for a 5dm2 though.

About 2000 A Fuji Finepix 2400z (it broke, dropped to many times)... 2005 Konica Minolta Z2 (still in use, but by the rest of the family more), 2008 Canon 450d. I'm contemplating, when I've found the money, on getting a 1000d and removing the IR filter.

My fist digital camera was a Sony P72 then the T300 and now I have a Nikon D60. I think I bought the P72 4 years ago, so just over a year for each upgrade.

Olympus E20p -> Olympus E3 taken about 5 years to upgrade :)

However like Steve I have got a load more film cameras

Bodies mean DSLR, so only one, a 30D that I bought last year. I still have my F2 and FM from the film days, and there's a slight temptation to switch to Nikon, but I'm not sure where I want to go with this, so I'll wait for a while.
