I take a lot of pictures of historic motorsport and for a while I've wanted to have a bash at manipulating some to reproduce the classic film look that pertains to the era of the vehicle.
I've done a few B&W 30's-50's style but Mono is relatively easy, it's about grain and contrast. Trying to replicate the colour films of the 50's, 60's and 70's is a different game entirely.
Any pointers would be gratefully appreciated please.

Have a search for Photoshop actions (assuming you have PS) - I came across a couple of Kodak Kodachrome ones which offer a nice 70s effect.

Also, there are commercial packages that offer such features and have a whole raft of simulated film types. DxO Filmpack comes to mind.

Whenever I've tried anything like that I always find that the images seem too sharp to be accurate for the period so you end up needing to add a little blur in too.
