Simply Electronics

I bought a tc from them, they were ok, needed a reminder to send the item

but otherwise fine

Purchased a TC recently with no fuss, no hassle. Delivery was within the timeframe expected. Would definitely purchase from them again. Just my 2p worth.

snap, good prices and if you can stand the wait and the poor/slow customer service if things go wrong then a good option

I've read quite a few horror stories about them. Google them, and make up your own mind though.

Avoid. Placed an order last year, despite being told the good were in stock I waited 9 days before cancelling my order (supposed to be next day delivery).

I bought a Nikon 18-200 from them new for £511 inc free delivery
no problem would use them again

Its not often I have to speak up about something like this, but its about time I did with this one...

I bought a Canon 7D from them for a good price about two years ago. Toward the end of the first year I decided to send it into Canon to have a service and clean prior to an expedition. Upon receiving the camera, Canon promptly contacted me and informed me the camera was 'Counterfeit'. By this they meant that the serial number label on the bottom of the camera had been removed and replaced with a fake one, which did not match the cameras onboard serial number.

I promptly contacted Simply Electronics who were extremely unhelpful, informing me that 'they do not sell counterfeit goods'. I obtained a signed affidavit from Canon and tried again. I eventually threatened them with legal action should they refuse to comply with a full refund of the item, to which they eventually relented. this was over a period of two months.

In my opinion, they are not worth the risk. the two lenses I have purchased from them have been shipped from Asia, not from a UK stock.

All I can say is, they may save you £50 or so, but its 'really' not worth it. Buy from a reputable retailer (ideally certified by the manufacturer of whatever you're buying). My current camera came from Jessops which actually ended up cheaper than even Simply were.

If you want good price comparison, try www.camerapricebuster.co.uk I believe all the retailers on there are legit.

Hope that helps :)

That will do for me. The reason I asked on here was that the price of the lens seemed to good to be true compared to other prices.

I've learnt over the years that if something seems to good to be true then with the rare exception it normally is.

Thanks to everyone that replied. I shall be giving this store a miss.

Off to the US end of the month so may look at buying over there as most lenses have a worldwide guarantee & I can possibly make a large saving buying in the States.
