I have an old computer that my son wants to use for uni, he's worried about leaving a decent computer in his shared accommodation whiles he's home for weekends and stuff.
Now I have an old win 95 pc but I'd be happier with it running a linux type software so I don't spend the rest of my life removing viruses and reformatting, what the best bet for an older computer just for web/email use?

Thanks in advance.

Recent versions are really getting quite resource hungry.
How much RAM has it installed?
You may not be able to put in more than 1GB

Slackware, Debian, xubuntu and keep away from either gnome or kde. I find xfce pretty lightweight but enough there to do printing/etc.

Not sure on the ram, I'd have to dig it out and set it up to see but I'd guess around a gig or more lightly 512 mb (boy that doesn't sound much rhese days)

Thanks for the replies I'll check out the tips and advice given.
Wayne
