With a good size table and white sheet curving up to the ceiling for simple product shooting, would I be better with a cheap flash set up or a constant light source?

Flash

Thanks Gary.
If I have a budget of £150 and ebay is my best friend if needed, what would you recommend?

I have a 380EX flash but is that enough? Would reflectors either side help?

Well, studio flash would be much easier/better, but you may be able to do it within your budget with hotshoe flashes.
Why not get some second hand ones?
Generally you'll need one for a key light and another as a fill - but you mention a white sheet as a background, and if you want to light that background you'll need at least one more light just for the background.
Depending on what you're shooting, you may need a softbox too, although a silk will do the job just as well, although not as easily.

You won't need to buy reflectors for small product photography, they can be bodged from foil takeaway lids, pieces of paper, kitchen foil, pieces of mirror etc.

Thanks Gary.
So, if I understand you, I would use the built in flash on the camera and get some method to fire my 380 off the body somewhere close. Possibly a third one towards the rear to light the background?

no you cant trigger a speedlight with the pop up, I dont think a 380ex even has a manual mode

even the horribly cheap studio gear on the internet will be better
