Simple but effective shots?

hi, i'm quite new here i joined just to have a look about and get some ideas

i'm a fairly novice photographer, i used to do some equestrian photography a few years ago but i just lacked time after a while, so i wanted to get back into photography and do more then just horses

i've been using my dog as a model for me and i've got some good shots from that, also flowers i've found quite good but i've come a bit stuck as to what else i can do

i've tried some landscapes but i don't think i've been using the right lens for it and they weren't great. also any other general tips on how to use a camera well? i've been using a nikon D70

Rather than looking for something interesting to photograph.. choose something and make it interesting!

For example I went out and took a photo of a crack in the ground and it received a very good response.. I'm going to be very cliche here but it's what you make of it

Shoot everything and anything

I went for a walk to my local park this morning just to check it out and had a lovely time. Took pics of the flowers, the council offices, park benches, the village stocks (yes we still have them unfortunately not used though!) Shoot candids, see what suits B&W, try different skies and clouds until you can do them without blowing them out (overexposing)

Anything that makes you work with your camera is good practice. It doesn't have to be a staged shoot, just work with anything you can get your hands on.

Yes my dogs are long suffering too, as are the cats and anyone else brave enough to come within range!

Also my current plan of action for scenery etc is to look at local postcards, I looked at some yesterday only to find that the shop I was stood at had a postcard where the photo was taken about 40 steps along from where I was.. and there was me thinking there was no opportunities around there!
