SimonTALM's 52 for 2010 pt 1 - Week 13 Quad added

Nice composition and lighting - very clean overall effect.

I WANT SOME ICE CREAM!

Interesting... as Jean said.. either late or very very early... however... It's clean (excepting the ice cream bits of course ;)) nicely composed and well lit, good details too...

Now I hope you made enough of that Ice Cream for all of us

Funnily enough, guess what I had for Christmas too !!!!!
I haven't used mine yet, but this has inspired me to give it a try this weekend and that mint choc chip just might be my first recipe

Enough about icecream though.
The shot works well. The composition is just off centre enough to give it some balance, the steel is crisp and clean and the white background sets it off well. I'm trying to work out if the white is part of the machine, your worktop or something you've PP'd in.

I like that, the colourless exterior really makes the ice cream colour stand out.

Composition is nice, I'm assuming the white surround is the top of the machine, shame the bottom left is slightly blown.

Great shot!

The candid I would say is a minor crow bar :D but the idea is to test yourself every week and the lighting was a test for this theme and is very nice.

Produce...... drrroooooooooool.....sluuuuurp. :D

I really like your produce shot - I like the colours and the simple composition - I think it would be even better if the rim near the bottom of the frame was sharp.

Phil

I won't ask why your Christmas present in either 3 months late, or 9 months early. But that ice cream looks yummy - very yummy indeed.

OK, now to try and concentrate on the photo. That ice cream look yum ... sorry ... the composition is excellent, with the detail at the side of the mixer arm leading the eye into that yummy ice cream. There's a nice highlight on the rim of the yummy ice cream container and the colours are muted but work well together and.... oh b****r it! All I can think bout is that yummy ice cream.

Jean

 it was 3 months late, I did unwrap one on Christmas day but it was transit damaged (quite spectacularly) so had to go back and there was no stock anywhere in the UK to get a replacement.

Nice composition and lighting - very clean overall effect.

Which flavour?

My freezer is stocking up with a wide selection of flavours ;)

Nope it's the top of the ice-cream maker it's one with the freezer unit built in to it so it's quite large.

Thank you

Thank you :D

Simon I have to have a slight disagree with Jean on the eye being led into the picture.
IMHO if the arm was at the bottom of the frame then one could say that it is leading the eye into the picture. However as the arm is at the top of the picture I see it as taking the eye out of the picture. The color of the appliance is mostly the same and even, and you have coped well with the lighting. I cannot make up my mind on weather the image should be sharp all over as opposed to being soft on the lower part, the jury is still out on that one.
BUT but but but as there is ICE CREAM in the bowl! What arm I say

Allan

Yep I know it's a bit late but I was away over the weekend and had really bad connection issues. All the photos were taken in the correct week.

I got the idea when I was wandering round Windsor and Eton and noticed that nearly every Post Box was a different example of the breed there are also at least 3 different monarchs covered by these boxes.

Things I learned this week.

1) Don't use the new self service points in the post office for 2 reasons
a) They only tell you they've run out of labels after they've taken your money and you need to join the massive queue anyway
b) You can't get a proof of postage through one (which I was willing to risk if I didn't have to queue)
2) There are so many styles of post boxes and some are fabulously attractive and almost art in their own right. These are just 4!

Hi Simon, top right shot, the window and bright sky attract the eye to much also perhaps a bit of levels/curves on the left dark side of the PB and wall to lighten them. Bottom left, because of the low angle I find that the houses are not at all distracting, also the paved bricks behind the PB act as a lead in line for the rest of the picture, very bland sky though. Bottom right is out of place in this image because it is not free standing.

Having finally stopped laughing at the comments from your last two images which I had shamefully missed untill now I will try to give some input  Absolutely love the different take on Candid....now why on earth didn't I think to do something similar with my friend whose name happens to be Candy  ......would have had trouble fitting her on a tupperware to backlight her though........

Produce is....well.....yummy.... I like the cleanness of this shot.

Onto Quad....wow what an amazing assortment of postboxes! Well noticed. Love how the one in the bottom left 'looks' selectively coloured but isn't!

 It depends where the eye starts. If you were scrolling down onto the picture as I was, my eyes started off at the top of the picture. Simples. :D

That ice cream still looks yummy! ;)

And so to Quad: A colourful take on the theme, Simon - I really like it. There are people who 'collect' post boxes - similar to train spotting I think. And an artist called David Dipnall painted a series of watercolours depicting rural postboxes in the four seasons:

So, a popular choice and good-looking postboxes. :)

Jean

That's excellent! Really brought out the detail and colours in those old boxes. Good work.

I like that, a nice set of shots. I'd be tempted to have a go at making at least one as a close up, perhaps focusing on the red HM Post Box logo or maybe that it's just a small image on my crappy work monitor...

Well done

Ahhhhh - so you have a posh icecream maker?
Unfortunately, I still have to rely on the freezer for mine.

Great idea for quad. I particularly like top left. I've never seen a blue postbox before  And apart from that, I really like the composition in this shot and the bit of reflection in the side of the box.
Top right I agree with Allan's comment about the windows and sky. I think I'd prefer this one cropped at the top.

However, as a compilation of shots they work really well together and it's one that I want to keep looking at.

I think the shots are all interesting and I love the detail. I wonder if changing the order of them would bring more balance overall. Something makes me want to juggle them around!

Phil

Some wonderful postboxes around there Simon, lovely colours too.

Really like those post boxes. Never knew there were so many different types!

Interesting.

Ian.
