Simon's 52 in 2023

Windows; love the shot of the glass tower with the cloudy sky seeming to pass through the top and the "produce" in the window of the last shot is fantastic. I also got a chuckle seeing the ghostly seagull flying past the clock tower in the upper right :D

Abandoned: love these shots and the story that goes with them. In the first shot, is that a small castle tower in the distance on the rounded hilltop?

All of these shots a great and are even so much better with your accompanying commentary. Really well done Simon.
 
A lovely set of window shots. My favourite is #1 - great tonal range.
Interesting back stories for abandoned. I think I'm with you on the chosen shot as a more interesting composition.

Your HDR shots don't scream HDR which is always a good thing!

The old quarry building work well too - like the green, blue and red colours making a nice simple pallette.

Cheers Bill. The small round building is some sort of lookout I think. Hard to find any substantive info about it.

Week 32 - Posession(s)

A quick and dirty one this week as I'm too busy to do much else.

I only tidied it a couple of weeks ago. Mind you, now I’m retired I find myself tidying it quite a lot, or at least standing in there ruminating about tidying it!

I have a room like that...just stuffed more with boxes that I haven't opened in years...
 
Week 33 - Machine(ry)

A little late with this week's submission due to a combination of a stinking cold and being out playing golf. However, today's walk on the outskirts of Cardiff provided the opportunity to take a shot of Radyr Weir on the Taff, with it's two huge Archimedes Screws which generate hydro electric power.
Each screw is 4m in diameter and 8m long. Up to 9,000 litres of water per second pass through each screw in optimal river conditions. The screws are connected to a gearbox which in turn drives a generator which produces electricity fed t the National Grid. The amount of electricity produced is dependent on river levels, but based on historic river levels, the average annual production would be approximately 1,500000kWh of electricity.

Week 29 - Pretty

A woefully late catch up for week 29 :headbang:

A shot of the new Victorian style bus shelter at top of Penarth replacing an old 60's style one, with reference to Marconi's first radio message over water made from Lavernock, a mile or so down the road to Flatholm island in the Bristol Channel. Pretty meadow flowers in front.

Week 34 - Circles

This week's theme immediately drew me towards this first shot. I may have posted this before in another previous year's challenge in a similar theme, and if so I apologise, but it fits this week's challenge perfectly. It's an artwork on the sea locks at Cardiff Bay Barrage - many years old now and quite faded which is why I purposely used an HDR merge to boost it a bit. You have to stand in a specific spot to see all the concentric circles, and have the lock gates shut otherwise you're missing a bit!

All the other shots are taken from in and around the barrage too.

Nope - definitely art! It’s very clever, and not the only work this artist (Felice Varini) has done like this, but it’s not quite as spectacular now that it’s faded.
 
Week 35 - Snapper's Choice

A slightly sneaky cheat this week as these images were actually taken yesterday (it was my main photo app day over the next week) and I'm not going to have much chance to do much over the next week as between all the normal day to day stuff and a couple of rounds of golf we're getting sorted for a cruise - flying out at sparrow fart middle of next week (I hope next week's theme whilst we're away is conducive to foreign climes and photo opps!).

My chosen shot is of the Afon Garw (river Garw) in the Garw valley near Bridgend. It's "just" and iPhone 13 Pro shot, although I've done a little PP in Affinity, but I'm really pleased with the way this turned out with the light on the mossy rocks.

Cheers Dave. Somehow it's come out looking a bit nicer than it did in reality - probably the iPhone rendering and some basic tweaking in PP helped. I'd have like to get a little lower for the shot, but my knees didn't want to play! :)
 
Some great shots Simon. The sea locks image is fantastic! I love the sheep shot as well.
 
Some lovely shots.. I rather like the perspective of the last one. It almost looks like a giant sheep :LOL:
