Simon's 52 in 2022

Another nice set Simon. The clock pic is my favourite but I do like the big wheel too.

Nice set! Right one chosen :)

I like the clock shot a lot, the shadows and the vignette really add to it.

The big wheel made me chuckle but the clock image is beautifully simple.

Thanks Joan. I was 50/50 on posting the big wheel as the main image, but the clock won, even though it is simple, but sometimes simplicity is the best way forward!

Week 27 - Post(s)

I've gone a little bit shoehorn on some of my shots this week just for a bit of a change.

Lifeguard flag post - well maybe a bit of a shoehorn, but I like this shot with the gulls, the flag the Bristol Channel and the Quantock hills beyond.

Was watching the cricket at my local club today, and captured this electricity post (allright pole) that impinges on the edge of the ground.

A very large flag pole (post) at Friars Point, Barry. I've never seen a flag on this.

A biggish shoehorn - Nells Point National Coastwatch "post" at Barry Island.

Finally, can't argue with this - it's post!

And a little bonus this week - an old photo so doesn't count, but my favourite pointless signpost from where we holiday in Corfu

Fab set Simon :)

Nice set of posts Simon,

The last post looks not to be working, I can see no one else on the beach.

I think I prefer the hanging baskets. Just more colourful than the others.

Pete

Ha ha! Thanks Pete. Yes was a tricky choice and I almost posted the hanging baskets.

Great set Simon, love the letter in the mail slot. I thought that the "very large flag pole" was actually the top of a sailing mast.

I think that the south cardinal marker might make for a good subject for a long exposure if you can get the right angle.

Thanks Bill. No it’s definitely just a flagpole. Good idea for the long exposure. Will bear that in mind when the opportunities arise.
I love that signpost :D
It’s fab isn’t it?!

Crikey Simon! You’ve been busy this week and what a lovely diverse set.

I really like your chosen shot as I like the distinct layers of beach, sea and land in the background.
The flag on the post really stands out well and the bulls are an added bonus.

Thanks so much Pete. Not really that busy. There’s actually quite a lot of posts around once you start looking. mots of these and more just from a wander around Barry Island for an hour. And I reckon if I take enough shots, one will turn out ok :ROFLMAO:

Nice collection of posts. I used to volunteer with the NCI!

I like your chosen shot best. Lovely scene that reminds me of holidays.

Thanks for taking the time to comment Bee! Appreciate it. There’s just something about that one that grabs me.

Week 28 - Water (and tech - dappled light)

So, I went to a local country park (Cosmeston Lakes, near Penarth in the Vale of Glamorgan) keen to not only get the water theme in, but also the tech as there's plenty of trees around.

I took my Sony RX100vi and my iPhone 13 Pro (which is always within reach wherever I am!). Took a load of shots, but these are the best of the bunch that I hope fulfil this week's challenge plus the current tech challenge. These are both RX100vi shots, but the iPhone takes such good photos too - I'm chuffed to bits with it's camera capabilities, and it's ability to get decent exposure in tricky contrast conditions is excellent, whilst I find the RX100vi (or any other "manual camera" for that matter), to be much harder to set up to get the shot right SOOC, and almost always needs some PP to tweak the shot. Granted, the iPhone perhaps isn't quite as good yet if you start pixel peeping, but as 99% of my photos are only ever viewed on an 21" iMac monitor or smaller, it doesn't really matter that much. Anyway, here they are.

I like the fact there's a man sitting on the bench here - adds something to the shot I think

Yep - defo bloke on bench shot! Both boxes ticked well :)

Both good shots Simon, I might have played with crop a bit. Maybe a 16X10 or 16X9 to cut out a bit of the bottom?

Thanks Bill. I wanted to keep the distance perspective so as not to lose the dappling effect of the light on the ground.

Good combination Simon. I would have cropped a bit more but that's just me.
Man on the bench adds interest.

Post: I like your chosen shot as it has a layered quality, including the tracks in the sand.
Water. The dappled light on #2 is a little more obvious but I can see why you chose the element of interest in #1

Thanks Peter - as above with my response to Bill, but given that’s two people now saying a crop might work better, I think I’m losing the argument

I don't think the watch post is too much of a stretch, it's fair game, and it's my favourite from the set, the blues and greens are beautiful, with the building dividing the two.

I prefer the first water shot, it seems cleaner than the second... I think it's the bench sticking out of the tree in shot 2 that draws my eye a little. Both have lovely dappled light though.

Thanks Nick. Yes, I like the watch post one.
I was a little concerned about the bench sticking out, which is partly why I went with the other shot. My cloning out skills aren’t particularly good!!!
