Simon's 52 in 2022

All good shots Simon. I like your chosen image but I'm also partial to the girder bench and the last image of the storage tanks. I think that one might make an interesting long exposure shot.

Thanks (as always) Bill. I though the bench shot wasn’t a strong enough subject on its own. The storage tanks one intrigues me too. It’s not a place I often look for a shot but the lumpy clouds worked well with high contrast against the darker bay and the white tanks.

I agree Simon, I would probably go back with the intent of shooting a long exposure. Maybe during the day when there are good clouds and using a 10stop ND filter.

I think that you could work the scene for the bench, maybe shooting it at different angles. I could be a very good image if you happen across someone sitting on it.

Good series of shots Simon. I too would have gone with the girder but they are all relevant.

Another strong series Simon. My favourite is the one you’ve chosen. It has elements of the “New Topographic” style about it and l really like industrial subjects.

Thanks for those comments Pete! (y)

That's a really unusual building in your chosen shot, not sure I would feel comfortable in it!!! I liked the use of the girder as a bench too. Hadn't thought about the long exposure but I agree, that could work well.

Thanks Catherine. It’s up high to oversee the 3 sea locks which are quite deep at low tide (we have the 2nd highest tidal range in the world here (after the Bay of Fundy in Canada), and see what craft ar coming in from the inner bay

An interesting set Simon.

Raw ingredients for Irn Bru in No4 :)

Week 22 - Treasure

Seriously panicking this week to get an entry in. Been away to see family weekend and in midst of packing for a long awaited Mediterranean cruise (leaving Thursday) which will be first time abroad since summer 2019. So it was a quick nip down to Barry Island this morning for a few snaps as I'm not going to have any other opportunity.

This was an image I had in my mind when @Cobra announced the theme, although I rather hoped it would be open and I could get a few inside shots. Too early today though. However, the closed shutters give it a rather forlorn appearance (some say Barry Island is a bit forlorn anyway but it's not!), and are rather at odds with the "treasure" inside.

Same image as above, but converted to B&W with an infrared filter applied which pops the "Treasure Island" banner

Adjacent to the amusements is a Pirate Adventure golf course. Whilst there are opportunities for getting shots of the treasure chests, it was tricky to get a clean shot without fences, ropes and other buildings in the background.

Great selection of pictures there, you’ve picked the right one I think. The conversion to black and white does as you say make the words pop.

Nice set Simon.

This is the only thing I can think of at the moment, I will be down there some time this week to photograph my treasure shot,

Thanks John. As I say a bit of a last ditch effort. Hopefully you can get some good shots.

A good capture Simon. I think that I prefer the colour version.

Is this a casino or some type of kid's park. I'm confused looking at the cartoon pictures of the fish but reading "everyone's a winner...cash jackpot".

Thanks Bill-it’s an amusement arcade. Slot machines, video games and the like.

Excellent idea for the theme. A good set of images. I prefer the colour one. I also think the pirate shot is an equal first.

Thanks for the feedback Peter. Much appreciated. I would perhaps have preferred the pirate shot if I could have got a clean shot without either fences, other buildings or rope holding him up!

A nice series again Simon. I prefer the colour one as it “pops” a bit more than the b/W for me.

I prefer the colour version, the muted tones of the unlit sign are really nice, it has an old feel to my eyes. The single seagull adds interest.

I do like how the sky looks in the mono version though.

Typical for me.. I prefer the mono version which makes the name pop out more than the colour (imho ;))

Week 23 - Solid

Currently half way through a Rome & Med Cruise holiday, so not really focused on the challenge this week.

A bit of a half hearted attempt, with a snap of Rhodes old town SOLID walls which have been around for a good few years!

Also apologies for a lack of comments on others feeds for the same reason.

I must now get back to the sun (very, very warm), food and cocktails……

looks lovely there. Fits the theme and well done for getting it in whilst away on a cruise!

Hits the theme with picture that’s a solid wall!

Very solid. Well thought, especially when you are in holiday mode.

thank you folks…. Currently cruising from Mykonos to Naples! Sorrento on Friday, so maybe @Cobra will be good to me and have lemons as next weeks theme……

A lot of people seem to think the themes I post are all Lemons :D

It fits the bill Simon, and I'm jealous of your "very, very warm" place in the sun...

Well done on keeping up with the 52 while on holiday... you put me to shame ;)
Enjoy!

That works Simon. The walls certainly are solid.

I've learned through experience to try and get the pics done in the week of the theme, otherwise I could easily get too far behind and give up, like last year.
