I like the second one but I would crop it so the waterline hit the bottom left corner to give a better leading line in. IMO it's the colours in the sunset that are the subject so the beach doesn't need a lift - had the beach been the subject, a 180° spin of the camera would have had it (the beach) lit by the sunset for the colours and not risked blowing the sky or looking unnaturaly HDRed.

Week 19 - Sport(s)

Almost running out of time this week. It's been a hectic 7 days for an old retiree and I haven't really had much opportunity to take the camera anywhere. I did have a sailing shot in mind (the local waterfront has a sailing club and loads of dinghies out n a Sunday morning - when I went down this weekend the tide was out and not a boat to be seen anywhere!! :headbang:

So I've resorted to an iPhone capture of the scene at Newport Golf Club practice putting area yesterday, where my playing partner (in the foreground) was getting some practice in ahead of our round in the Newport Seniors Open. For the record he did ok, whilst I played just about my worst round of golf ever! :(

LOL, EVERY round of golf is my worst ever! Good shot Simon.
 
I tend to have just a couple of minutes on the practise green - don't want to waste any good putts!!!
Despiote having an iffy back at the moment, I seem to be playing reasonably well, with 3 rounds (9 holes - it's an old duffers' course!) at or under par in the last week. Expecting an unkind cut...

That’s a lovely golf shot Simon. The blue sky and sun makes me just want to be out there with them.

I like how you have included the little sign down on the left - at first glance I thought they were playing pitch and putt (sorry).

Thanks Peter. I cropped the shot a little as there was an unseemly low wall just in front of me, but I wanted to keep the sign in.
 
Nice picture, you’ve captured the theme well there. I’m not a golfer but my friends seem to constantly play their worst days!

Thanks for your comments Simon. As I said, it was more of a panic snap as I'm running out of time this week, and taking my "proper camera" on course during a competition would probably be frowned upon! But the light was good (but a massive squall came through about 30 mins later).
 
I really like this composition and the colours. You've chosen a great viewpoint with the main focal character (your partner) and then the lines in the grass take you to the other two players. Plus an interesting sky!

Thanks Bee….you’re too kind though. I didn’t put too much thought into this shot other than getting most of the wall out of the way before cropping the rest out. Anything else is luck rather than judgement

Well your natural talent is obviously shining through :) They say threes/odd numbers work best too.
 
Lovely shot Simon, allready been mentioned but the composition is very good, lots to look at..
 
Week 20 - Parallel

Yeek! another week where other distractions have and will continue limit the chances of spending too much time on this challenge. I thought in retirement you were supposed to be able to take things easy!

A selection of images from a couple of walkabouts.

In Penarth, a small town just a couple of miles away where we regularly go for a walk, are a couple of interesting walls with some patterns that fit this weeks theme. Here's the first. Bonus points for anything who starts singing the song "Alberta".

Just across the road from the wall above, is this one with the red bricks making nice parallel lines (oops, inevitable Blondie reference).

Still in Penarth and within sight of the second wall, is a nice re-tarmacing of the road with some freshly painted double yellows....

A final Penarth entry this week is a shot of the planking on the pier. I couldn't get this the way I wanted as there were too many people about.

And finally two taken whilst wandering around the cricket pitch watching my son playing. This first of the wires and telegraph poles I quite like, but a couple of people have already beaten me to the idea.

Great set Simon, I didn't start singing Alberta when I saw you image, my mind just connected directly with our neighbouring province.

It was your power lines shot that made me pause though. For me I think that it's the strongest of the group.

Funnily enough I’ve just collected an old friend and colleague I haven’t seen for a few years who’s staying with me for a couple of days who's now a Canadian citizen living in BC

Wasn't thinking straight - I scored to handicap rather than par, although I did manage to make par on a couple of holes per round (with plenty of bogies and doubles to bring the score down!)

Good set Simon. For some reason my eye is drawn to the second image.
 
A great set of pictures Simon, difficult to pick one, the pier or double yellow lines as there is more going on would be my choice

Week 21 - Metal (+ tech Mono)

So I've left it late (again). This week once the theme was announced, I was determined to take a bit more time and also utilise the current tech of Mono. I knew that there were plenty of opportunities down at Cardiff Bay so popped down there this morning. I hope you like these, which were all taken with my Sony RX100vi utilising a mix of high contrast B&W or Rich B&W from the picture effect menu.

Metal 1 - these are some gates leading off the path adjacent to Penarth marina down to the river Ely. I'm not really sure why they're there. Thy are easily by-passable, and there's nothing at the bottom!

Metal 2 - This is a large heavy equipment lift on the barrage by the main sea locks

Metal 3 - The is the Barrage/sea locks control building, with lock 1 (of 3) just about visible in the foreground. I'm using this one as my chosen shot as I quite like it, and there's loads of metal in shot!
