The TP 52 - 2025 SimonB - 52 for 2025 - Week 52 - Done and all caught up!

Cracking deserted shot, and the portrait shot a really interesting and cool take on the theme. The drone shot is pretty top notch too.

A nice set!

Deserted - lovely. I want to start walking. Not sure we need all that sky though.

Portrait - love it! Really different, and you certainly achieved your objective. Impressed!

Thanks very much! Quite enjoying the walking of late, but come winter...

Great set Simon. Wish I could find a local beach like that, that wasn't all muddy up with footprints.

Your portrait shot is a really creative shot. Great idea to use the low morning light to get that long dramatic shadow as a counterpoint to the line of your footprints.

I arrived quite early, it was apparently bedlam later that day. Thanks, I was lucky to remember to include the long shadow I missed it on the first couple of shots.

Two great pictures and nice idea.

Thanks!

Ha thank you, I thought the drone might be feeling left out with all of the pictures I was taking of myself, very vain!

On the ball for once with this week's theme!

I'm lucky enough to live near the sea, and there's a rather dilapidated building nearby that used to be a nightclub back in the day. I would have been too young to go in, but for as long as I can remember, it's stood empty.

In 2021, Sefton Council commissioned artist Paul Curtis to paint a large mural on the building. While it looked great at the time, it sparked some controversy among locals, mainly due to the cost and the feeling that it was like putting a plaster on a broken leg.

Now, a few years later, the mural is starting to show signs of wear and tear, and the surrounding railings don’t exactly add to the area’s charm. Personally, I feel the money would have been better spent making the building watertight or even knocking it down.

Maybe, I'm just becoming more cynical as I get older!

Anyhow, enough ramblings from me.

Here is the building with its still vibrant colours, along with the also now abandoned Pontins sign, I couldn't quite pick between the two!

I like that big mural - certainly better than a just a knackered old building. They knocked down our old Pontins site and built houses on it!

Rather frustrating to have abandoned buildings.
I do like the Pontins sign, has a very 1960’s feel to it, and vibrant

Mural for me as well, though share your feeling on whether it was a good "investment" for the area, Our local Pontins in Prestatyn closed in 2023 though Butlins might be buying it according to local papers

I think that I would have torn between the Pontins sign and the mural. I like them both.

If the light had been kind to yoiu, I think I would have preferred the Pontins sign, but I think the mural is definitely more vibrant.

Beach shot is very evocative and works really well for the theme.

Love the drone shot though.

I like the mural

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. I was a bit torn between the Pontins sign and the old building, as Kell said if the light had been better the sign might have got it!

I saw this week's theme and immediately thought ah this would be a good one for the macro lens, my wife, trusting as always, seemed to think I had rude ideas...just goes to show where her mind is!

I managed to trap my thumb during a DIY mishap a few weeks ago, and I thought it would be nice to share this rather grumesome-looking thumb nail with you all. It wasn't an easy shot to take one handed.

The paracetamol certainly helped!

Nice :wideyed::runaway:

Youch!!!
Did you put the hole in the nail or the Dr?

Nice composition with the paracetamols by the way

Ah, I had every intention of doing it myself but I chickened out and went to the walk in centre. It was quite quick really, the relief was amazing and a surprisingly amount blood was released.

I don’t recommend bashing your thumb if it can be helped!

Ouch! Speedy recovery & good timing for an injury at least

Good one...even if a little (a lot) gross...:puke:

Went to Monkey World last weekend in Dorset, it is a nice sanctuary to visit, but the Stories behind the monkeys being rescued were quite sad. A lot of them came from laboratories or were used as photographers' props (gave me pause for thought, taking their picture). It was however, good to see how well they are cared for now and how much space and social interaction they have.

I thought this little squirrel monkey was a good contrast for two different methods of being observed.

I thought this chimp's expression was really interesting. What was he thinking of the people staring back at him?

by Simon Brown

One of the few that I was able to get a good opportunity to spend my time taking a picture, the monkeys were either always on the move, looking the wrong way or I was struggling to focus past the wire-linked fences. The white spot marks were from the glass, if I spent a bit more time on the picture I would have removed them all but I opted for the worse ones.

All in all, a very good day and a long drive home afterwards.

Fab take on the theme :)

Super shots of the monkeys' Simon.

You can see the humanity in their forlorn expression.

Some really nice shots there Simon. The last shot especially.

Thanks, something different!

You certainly can, it is nice to think that they are being cared for properly now.

Thank you, my favorite of the three. It was quite tricky to get a picture where the wire mesh, reflections in the glass weren't in the way.

This was taken while Lilly was inside an upturned washing basket. It is a game she likes to play where she tries to bat your fingers when you poke them through the holes. She is gentle enough that she won't use her claws (thankfully!). This was taken with my phone, looking through one of the holes.

Don't worry, she was released after we were done! :ROFLMAO:

Great game! Super picture.

Thanks for the explanation, I thought it was a cat's eye view from within the collar of shame (which we have failed to keep on any cat for more than 5 milliseconds).

Funnily enough our other cat has been given the ok to remove his cone of shame today after 18 days of wearing it! He tried many times to remove it but failed every time! Had his ear stitched back together after he was attacked by a ginger Tom.

Nice idea, they are characters

Thanks, spur of the moment picture.

Nice shot of the cat

Thanks, it helps when they stay still!

Fab kitty pic :)

Our Jazzy wouyld do that - but with the death blades!

A double upload for me this week.

Our cat is taking a well earned rest from resting, so therefore a display of lack of movement from him.

I was hoping to take a picture of a spider or something with many legs, didn't find much until I turned over a log in the garden, and I was greeted by so many woodlice!

Couple of good shots there Simon, the pedant in me wants to point out if you had found a spider it wouldn't be on theme as they aren't technically insects...:exit:

Well, find me happily corrected! :ROFLMAO: I just wanted a nice close-up shot of a spider to show the wife (hates them) still the woodlice was a nice find :)

A good mini-catch-up.

Err, the pedant in me needs to point out that woodlice are not insects either! They are crustaceans, like crabs and lobsters. Apparently they taste strongly of urine, but I cannot personally confirm this.
