SIM error

Anyone having problems with their iphone5 my sons phone keeps getting "no sim card installed error" having work previously i'm a little confused . Having looked around the web this seems a common problem . There's loads of different advice available ,switching airplane mode off and on seems a popular one but didn't work for me . Any ideas, and if any of you had this problem what was you fix .

Have you tried removing it and reinserting. Giving the contacts on the card a clean in the process. Could also be a failed sim, has been known

wipe the sim card with a pencil eraser. cleans the surface.
