Silverstone F1 question

I’m thinking of going back to silverstone to shoot the F1 this year, for the first time in several years. Checking the FAQ on the website and it says please keep lenses at 400mm max. I was hoping to take my 120-600 to help get through the fences.

Any experiences on how close they check these days? The last time I went to Silverstone it was a cursory look in the bag and my 120-400 at the time wasn’t given a second glance. However I shot Baku a few times whilst living there and the security could get quite picky about bigger lenses (and all manner of odd things). But that is often the nature of security in such countries.

Wondered what recent experiences of Silverstone are? Any thought welcome.

Surely they are talking about the physical length of the lens and not the focal length.

I went there many years ago, so I imagine things have changed. I took a video recorder and all sorts of things, no issues.

Might be worth filling in the contact form?

Not sure, hence the question. Not longer tham 400mm (40cm) physical length seems sensible to stop people bringing in huge lenses to the site and annoying the adjacent people. Just interesting that it uses the language "keep lenses below 400mm", rather an saying no longer than 40cm.

I might well be over thinking it :)

Been to Silverstone loads of times and the security checks are pretty cursory and the staff are great - don't try it at Barcelona though, they were just vile. Genuinely confrontational. Best to err on the side of caution. What happens if they refuse you? Do you go home and waste the tickets or leave a grands worth of Tamron and hope it's still there eight hours later when you leave!!.
