Can anyone tell me, being a relative newbie at this, I have a Pentax K100d Dig SLR and use Windows Vista, what edition of photoshop would be best for me and how much should I expect to pay? Have had a look and some of the prices frankly make me want to :'( !! I have been experimenting with RAW instead of JPEG but the software provided free by Pentax does not seem very user friendly at all, would love a program that enables me to have a bit of fun with the images I take. Any advice would be gratefully received and sorry for asking a dumb question.

Rather then full blown Photoshop which is overdraft bustingly expensive, why not try Photshop Elements. A quick look at Adobes website says that there is an update that will allow it to run happily on Vista, and I think you can even download a free trial

As for processing RAW files, not sure elements will do this, you may have to use your existing software to convert to tiff, then edit in PS-E, or possibly try something like RawShooter, which is a free download, though again, I am not able to say if RS will deal with Pentax raw files.

Thanks for that, have tried to download the free photoshop trial but without success - not sure why. It installs but won't open... Thanks for the advice though, much appreciated.

You might want to try http://www.isl.co.jp/SILKYPIX/english/ .
It should be a never version of what you already have and better in a way or two as well.

You might want to try the free apps first, so you wouldn't spend your money on something you might not really need.

I use Raw Shooter Essentials or Raw Therapee (occasionally Nikon View) for tweaking my raw files and then I export them and edit in the GIMP if needed (I usually sharpen them only in the GIMP).
