Hi folks, this week I'm the happy owner of a lovely Redsnapper tripod and 3 way head but I've got one rather daft question about the QR plate on tripods. It's a rectangular shape and I was wondering whether I should be fitting it sideways along the length of the camera body or longways so that a portion of the QR plate is sticking out in front and behind?

Or is it simply a matter of personal preference.

Tommy.

Fit it so that it doesn't stick out. You'll use it the other way on long lens supports.

My Manfrotto QR plate has arrows underneath to help us noobs out:)

Is there a problem with fitting the plate so that it sticks out?
I do not have this tripod, but my tripod has a plate to attach to the camera. If I attach it so that it is all hidden, I cannot change batteries without unscrewing. If I rotate 90 degrees, so that sticks out I can.

Am I likely to damage anything? I assumed that the screw hole took the majority of the weight

No you won't do any damage - use it as you wish.
